Halloween Treat - My Last Cup Of Coffee
Switched to Tea

October 31st, 4 am in the morning: My last cup of coffee was a wonderful treat.
I have been thinking about to stop drinking coffee. I know - alarm bells going off.
Are you sure? My brain rebels…
Yes I am. I had done it before a few different times and kept coming back to coffee after a while. I do love the taste. The problem is not the coffee itself and it's not a problem per se. It is that I add additional things to the coffee. Also coffee can cause some stomach discomfort that I had been experiencing occasionally.
My reasons for stopping coffee are:
I'm hoping to sleep better and fully recognize when I'm tired.
My plan is:
Instead of making another cup of coffee in the afternoon take a break when I am tired and have a nice cup of herbal tea. Going to bed sooner at night.
My last cup of coffee at least for now was made with pumpkinseed milk - with the 1919 Hazelnut brand coffee that is an instant coffee made in Mexico. I also added some caramel cream.
It was delicious. I made the pumpkinseed juice or "milk" by soaking the pumpkin seeds and grinding them up. I've been experimenting with making multiple types of juice making out of different seeds and nuts. It has been an interesting process that I'm planning to write another article about. You can see the mixed pumpkin seeds below.

I could not resist after my last cup of coffee have a last cup of decaf coffee as well so on November 1st. I had my last cup of decaf coffee at work it was a Peruvian coffee and I used a caramel creamer in it. I took a sip by sip approach throughout the afternoon with enjoyment knowing that I will not have this treat probably for a very long time.
Since I stopped drinking coffee - today is the 4th day - I switch to green tea and herbal teas. This morning treat is a beautiful herbal blend of loose leaf tea with hibiscus and green tea in it.

After I woke up this morning I boiled the water. I prepared my cup and placed the loose-leaf tea in a filter that I have specifically for making those types of teas. I poured the hot water over the tea and let it soak for about five minutes.
I received this beautiful maroon-colored tea that tastes like a wine without alcohol in it.

The favors wake up multiple senses in my brain
There's a recognition of smelling the flower and the hint of the fall season. Different types of green teas become my morning treat at least for now. I'm experimenting with multiple flavors and the amount of time needed to brew the tea to make the perfect morning liquid to enjoy.
I always loved tea and going back to it and learning more about it is very familiar and welcoming. This summer and fall I collected berries and mint that I dried. I am currently using my dried treats in my teas.
One of my favorite cups of tea is boiling water and throwing some dried goji berries and red currents into the water. I am letting the berries fill up with water and soak in the water for five to ten minutes and then drink it. It is a wonderful light herbal tea. While you drink the tea you can also eat the berries. Deliciousness in the making.
