Everything is energy. We are made of energy. Energy or also known as prana (life force) travels throughout our bodies all the time. We have seven major energy circles that are known in the yoga philosophy and other teachings. These 7 circles of energy that begin from the root of our spine all the way to the crown of the head. These circles of energy exist in our bodies and even in animal’s bodies as well.
The first chakra is the root chakra (muladhara in Sanskrit). It has 4 petals and is of color red located at the base of the spine. It issues our survival instinct, vitality, security, and stability. The mantra for this chakra is LAM. When this chakra is balanced there is a sense of groundness, security, feeling energetic, there is optimal weight, healthy eating, and healthy gut. If this chakra is unbalanced you may fear anxiety, fear, insecure, unstable, anemia, low self-esteem, and constipation.
The second chakra is located below the navel and two inches in (svadhistana in Sanskrit). It has six petals and is color orange. The mantra for this chakra is VAM. It represents creativity, sexuality, and pleasure. If this chakra is unbalanced you may feel a sexual dysfunction, arthritis, lack of creativity, withheld intimacy, genital problems, emotional isolation, lower back problems, and hip issues.
The third chakra (manipura in Sanskrit) is located between the navel and the solar plexus. It is of yellow color. It issues strength, self-esteem, and power. The mantra for this chakra is RAM. When this chakra is balanced you may feel active, confident, balanced, with strong will, energy, and good health. If unbalanced there might be liver problems, feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem, weakness, allergy, feeling guilty, and lack of energy.
The fourth chakra is located in the heart area at the center of the chest(anahata in Sanskrit) and is of color green. The mantra for this chakra is YAM. If balanced this chakra makes us feel tolerant, emotionally balanced, open-hearted, empathetic, loving, and trustworth. If unbalanced it can mean that we feel critical, jealous, lonely, allergic, problematic, asthmati, cold-hearted, and with tendencies of allergies.
The fifth chakra is the throat chakra (vishuddha in Sanskrit) and is located in the throat. It is of color blue. The mantra is HAM. If this chakra is balanced there is a sense of peace, strong self-expression, good listening, good communicating, and truthfulness. An unbalanced chakra will make you have a feeling of being shy, fear of speaking, arrogance, throat problems, thyroid problems, hearing problems, and lying.
The sixth chakra located in between our eyebrows (ajna in Sanskrit). This chakra is of color indigo. The mantra is OM. This chakra is made very powerful with spiritual practices, meditation, and yoga. When this chakra is balances there is a feeling of openness, a deep spiritual connection, strong morality, and can easily determine between truth and illusion. If this chakra is unbalanced there may be distrust, moodiness, and daydreaming.
The seventh chakra is the last one that you will probably see in metaphysical stores and yoga studios but there are more chakras. There are chakras that connect us to the center of the Earth and to the Galaxy. The seventh is located at the crown of the head and the color is violet (sometimes white). The Mantra is again OM or silence. It issues the connection that we have with the universe , with spirit, and our knowing. When this chakra is balanced you will feel a strong nervous system, unity, wisdom, spiritual, peaceful, open-minded, and connected to the universe. If this chakra is unbalanced there can be mental disorders, spiritual crisis, fear, apathy, memory and learning problems, broken, and materialistic problems.
These are the seven chakras or circles of energy that pass through our bodies. This is the daily work that we have. The work is to balance and energize our energy circles daily. There are many ways to do that. With this information know we can more easily detect which chakra is more unbalanced in our lives than another and do something about it to balance that area. If that area is balanced then only good this can occur.
