Even though there might be truth to that, there are other, more important steps that you should take if you want to have a perfect smile. Here are some tips on how to keep your teeth healthy and your smile beautiful:

Keep your teeth clean

There’s no need to say that brushing your teeth twice a day is the key to having healthy teeth. Many people know that brushing teeth is important, but unfortunately, not many know how to brush their teeth properly. That’s somewhat understandable since a lot of people have busy lives, and they don’t have time to brush teeth thoroughly, and it’s probably been a while since someone showed them how to do it correctly. If you’re brushing your teeth hastily, then you should definitely take some time and do it the right way and also, make sure to do it regularly. Self-motivation and discipline are of the utmost importance when it comes to keeping your teeth clean and healthy. Use the toothpaste that isn’t too sweetened, and be sure to use the correct amount. Change your toothbrush every two to three months, and if possible, use the bamboo toothbrush which is more eco-friendly.

Don’t skip flossing

Using toothpicks after every meal is recommended, but sometimes, the problem with toothpicks is that they can be too harsh. That’s why flossing is a much better solution. Not flossing can have consequences such as gingivitis or cavities between the teeth which are more difficult to treat. It’s recommended to floss at least once a day, preferably before bedtime. When it comes to choosing the right floss, you can pretty much choose between nylon or Teflon, and both of them work. As long as you floss regularly, it doesn’t matter which one you use. Recently, it’s been reported that flossing before brushing is more effective, but if you’re still unsure, it’s best to consult your dentist.

Visit your dentist regularly

Having regular dental checkups is necessary if you want to keep your teeth in good condition. Sadly, the majority of people go to the dentist only when they have a toothache or something even worse. To prevent more serious dental issues, it’s advisable to visit your dentist twice a year. If you have problems with teeth, it’s always better to urgently undergo a safe and comfortable endodontics treatment than to wait and have to remove the tooth later, when it becomes too infected. Even though going to a dentist fills many of us with fear, always remember that prevention is the best cure. If you continue to care for your teeth and see your dentist regularly, you won’t have any reason to worry about your dental health anymore.

Eat the right food

Eating the right food isn’t only for those who want to lose weight. In case you want to preserve the health of your teeth, you should be wary of everything you consume. Obviously, eating less sugar will help, but you should also stay away from food that can easily get stuck between your teeth like popcorn, crackers and sticky candies. If food gets stuck, it will undoubtedly lead to cavities and gum inflammation. So, in order to avoid teeth troubles, make sure you eat healthy nuts, carrots, apples and dairy products such as cheese and yogurt. In case you’re still tempted to eat sugary snacks, make sure to floss afterwards, so you’ll minimize the potential damage. Also, try to drink less artificially sweetened fizzy drinks, and instead drink more water, milk and unsweetened herbal teas.

To summarise, your teeth are an integral part of your smile, therefore it’s important to keep them in good shape. These tips will help you keep them healthy and safe, you just need to be determined and implement them regularly. Soon you’ll have the red carpet smile that will impress everyone!
