Have you ever thought about what weights you down? It could be the people you interact with or you’re surroundings, maybe even your own thoughts?

In these season for myself I been thinking about living lighter and what that actually means in my life. For years I have been an active social justice a fighter and humanitarian. I constantly placing myself and focusing on helping, serving and, fight for the rights of others. But Lately, I been in a new direction of serving and loving on me. True radical and revolutionary self-care.

That’s brings me to start thinking deeper about the spaces I interact with and what things I give my energy too. We have all heard of the saying. Don’t give unless you have a full cup. But what does a full cup looks like in your life? For me in this journey is understanding that I live off joyful and spiritual elevating things, however I now realize I been flooding my mind and energy in heavy things of the world, focusing on external and communal trauma, litigation, and polices that attacking the human rights of the people of the community. All of these things are utterly important and very significant, but my heart and mind over time has gain this vicarious trauma and even over serving to try in ways that drains my energy.

Something else that may steal our inner beam and vitality if we allow it, is the many societal stressors we are impacted with on a daily. As soon as you wake up your mind is wired with many thoughts, many people are very connected to their phones getting on social media and online which constants messages being sent to your brains. Many of you may have to commute by subways or bus to work in the morning or drive through bustling traffic which causes stress and frustration. Now you finally at work, but the day is just starting and you may have a heavy work load, or overly bossy supervisor, or work in an environment that not supportive or inclusive, especially many people who identify as LGBTQ/ queer. So now you survived another day at work, your tired but still have to either drive or commute which may be a hassle in itself. All of this can cause mental fatigue and overall exhaustion. The wear and tear of life has many affects if we don't choose from time to time to rest, recharge, and focus on our overall well being.

But I’m not alone. I pretty sure many of you reading this can use a dose of self reflection to gain inner elevation. In my case the social service work I do keep me in heavy place sometimes, but what are your focus areas, where are you most likely spending your time and energy towards? Are your job, family, or friends joyful and high vibrating beings, or are they all in gloomy and swimming in sadness.

Here what I’m doing in this new season that may be helpful to you. I am asking myself a few questions daily and even hourly to keep myself living lighter and to properly use my inner light to shine.

1. What makes me feel joy, makes me laugh, or creates an all-around feel good emotion?

2. How is this space I’m in now? What’s the energy like here? Is it joyful or gloomy? Can I change it or should I leave and go somewhere else? (work, home, public building, store)

3. How is the energies or beings I keep in my personal space? Are they happy, joyful, working on themselves or gloomy, down in own, depressed?

4. What external messages, words, and conversations am I listening and feeding my soul with? Are they deeply negative, or helpful, rooted in pain or elevating me higher.

5. Where can I go to be cleanse, inner washed, and made whole a or restored? A church, a temple, home alter, park, spa and therapist place, sitting in nature or on the porch?

6. Today and now, what do I want? What are my cravings and urges for? What’s my spirit and soul desires now in this moment?

7. Have I checked in with myself? Have I release all my inner emotions? Do I feel like laughing or crying in this moment? What thing have I been carrying on to? What the areas of my own healing should I explore now in this moment or season?

Those seven internal and spiritual questions are some jewels and pearls of wisdom I use to help me in my life. So please feel free to try these yourself and create your own with your unique perspective and personality.

Also I’m here for growth and elevation, so please share your thoughts? Was this message soul food? Did I miss something? What do you suggest to make us all live lighter?
