7 Reasons Why You Should Meditate Daily

A Road Map to Inner Peace

By Christina Marie MartinPublished 8 years ago 4 min read
It is possible to know peace and happiness.

Meditation is a practice that has exploded into the mainstream in the last ten years due to the fast spreading wellness movement. But I'm willing to bet there are still quite a few people out there that just think they don't have the time, or that it's boring. Maybe just don't understand the true benefits of adding a short 10-minute practice to your daily routine. I know I didn't want to mess around with it when I first heard of it from a good friend of mine. But I was really suffering from anxiety and depression. No meds worked for me. I became curious. I started out with just 10 minutes in the morning. And you know what? Within about a week, I was in love. I want to share with you a list of my 7 favorite reasons why I believe you should meditate daily. I hope you give it a try.

1. Helps Keep You Grounded

Not all of us have the ability to keep our head out of the clouds. What I mean by this is, if you have a difficult time day dreaming or nodding off at your desk by noon, then this can help. With practice, you can keep your head in the game much easier throughout your day to day business. Whether it is at home or at work, any task at hand will be easier to keep your mind involved in.

2. Boost creativity.

The simple fact is that everyone could use some added creativity in life. It really helps you find that piece of yourself that guides your creative flow. Whether it be painting, writing, music, or some other avenue that you find interest in, meditation is essential for creative flow and growth. It will really cultivate that inner muse inside of you. Who knows? You could find out you are the next Van Gogh!

3. Embrace your power.

Yes! That's right. You have a deep well of power inside of you that can be brought out simply by meditating. I don't necessarily mean super powers, but what I do mean is a stronger sense of who you are and what your purpose is in the world. We all feel like we need a purpose and some of us just don't know what ours is yet. To find the power to be your true authentic self is to find your purpose. We can find this if we commit to our meditation practice daily.

4. Love, Love, & More Love

10 minutes a day keeps that heart ache away! That may sound a tad bit corny. And maybe it is. But it doesn't take any truth away from it. It has helped me heal through a whole lot of heartbreak, including divorce. You see, meditation involves a deep commitment and connection to one's self. I'm willing to bet that there's not a whole lot of us that connects to our own hearts throughout the day or even life! You were born with a heart and the Creator surely wants you to use it to love. Science has proven our hearts put out more energy than any other organ in the body, including our brains. How about we learn to channel some of that love inward towards the person that's always there. Yourself. This, in turn, will help you to love those on the outside even more.

5. Speak up!

It gives you a voice. Maybe you have no problem with speaking your truth. But I sure did and I'm positive there are more people just like me. I had a hard time expressing myself because a lot of the time I didn't truly know what I wanted. Meditation gives you a clear insight as to what the real you wants and needs. A story in India goes like this. If there is a mirror left in an attic for 10 or 15 years, it will be covered in dust. So, of course, you cannot make out your reflection. But if you clean the glass, after the dust in the air settles, you will be left with a clear image of what you are. It's so much easier to speak up when you know what your true desires are.

6. Strengthen intuition.

Adding ten minutes of meditation in the morning will really help you learn to listen to your still, small voice. We are always getting "gut feelings" that we just don't listen to because of our lack of faith in ourselves. Learning to meditate really helps you cultivate the faith you need in yourself. You will start to see synchronicities in life that lead you in directions that will benefit your life. I believe we have always had these feelings and synchronicities but failed to see or hear from a lack of connection. Getting that back is the first step in a much calmer more creative, happy life.

7. Connect to the Divine.

Of course there's the spiritual aspect of meditation. Whether your faith is in God, Jesus, Muhammed, Krishna, or you're an atheist, after practicing meditation for a time I am convinced one will ultimately find that there is something bigger than us out there. We can feel like we are part of something and not a separate entity, lonely and missing connection. The ethereal plane can be sought after. And it's a truly incredible feeling to become a whole. It will help you to see your importance in the world. This is the part I have had the greatest help from. I currently have been able to find relief from my anxieties and depression through meditation. It has replaced medications in my life. We can have peace in our hearts. We can have a clear mind. We can get to a point where our thoughts become like pigeons that we choose not to feed. If you can change your world for the better with just 10 minutes a day, then you will help change the entire world. If prayer is asking God for help, then meditation is listening for the answer. As within. So without.

If you suffer from depression or anxiety please consult your physician before stopping any medications. This story is my experience and everyone's journey is different. I pray you receive abundant blessings. Namaste.
