
I’ve always struggled with my weight since I was a kid. I was bullied at school, rejected by boys, and insecure about my appearance. I tried many diets and exercise programs, but nothing seemed to work for me. I would lose some weight, then gain it back, and then some more.
I was unhappy, depressed, and hopeless. I felt like I had no control over my body or my life. I hated myself and the way I looked. I avoided mirrors, social events, and cameras. I was ashamed of myself and my body.
Then, one day, everything changed. I saw an article online about red light therapy and how it can help with weight loss and body contouring. I was intrigued by the idea of using low-level laser light to target the fat cells under my skin and make them shrink. It sounded too good to be true, but I decided to give it a try.

For me, plateaus were frustrating and discouraging. Sometimes I felt like giving up or cheating on my diet. But I reminded myself of how far I had come and how much I wanted to reach my goal. I also looked for ways to spice up my routine and challenge myself more. For example, I tried different types of exercises, such as yoga, pilates, or HIIT. I also experimented with different cuisines, such as Mediterranean, Asian, or Mexican. These changes helped me break through the plateaus and keep me motivated.
Loose skin. Losing a large amount of weight can result in loose or sagging skin, especially in areas where you had a lot of fat, such as your abdomen, arms, thighs, and breasts. This can affect your appearance and self-confidence.
For me, loose skin was one of the biggest drawbacks of losing 50 pounds. It made me feel self-conscious and uncomfortable in certain clothes or situations. It also made me wonder if people would notice or judge me for it.
To prevent or minimize loose skin, you should lose weight gradually, stay hydrated, eat enough protein and collagen, and moisturize your skin. You may also consider surgical or non-surgical options to tighten your skin if it bothers you.
For me, losing weight gradually was not an option, as I wanted to lose 50 pounds as fast as possible. However, I did drink plenty of water, eat protein-rich foods like chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, beans, and lentils, and take collagen supplements to help improve my skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles. I also used coconut oil and aloe vera gel to moisturize my skin and soothe any irritation or inflammation. I also considered getting a tummy tuck or a body lift to remove the excess skin, but I decided against it because of the cost, the risks, and the recovery time. Instead, I learned to accept and love my body as it is, and focus on the positive aspects of losing 50 pounds.
Social pressure. You may encounter people who are not supportive of your weight loss journey, such as friends, family, or coworkers. They may make negative comments, question your choices, or tempt you with unhealthy foods.
For me, social pressure was one of the hardest challenges to deal with. I had some friends and family who were supportive and encouraging, but I also had some who were jealous, skeptical, or unsupportive. They would say things like “You look too skinny”, “You’re losing too much weight”, “You’re not eating enough”, or “You’re obsessed with your weight”. They would also offer me food or drinks that I didn’t want or need, such as cake, pizza, beer, or soda.
To deal with social pressure, you should surround yourself with positive and encouraging people who respect your goals and decisions. You should also be assertive and confident in expressing your needs and boundaries.
For me, I decided to distance myself from the people who were not supportive of my weight loss journey, and spend more time with the people who were. I also learned to say no politely but firmly to any unwanted food or drink offers, and explain why I was making certain choices. I also invited my friends and family to join me in my healthy lifestyle, such as cooking healthy meals together, going for walks or hikes, or trying new activities.
Emotional changes. Losing weight can bring up a lot of emotions, both positive and negative. You may feel proud, happy, excited, or relieved by your progress. You may also feel sad, angry, frustrated, or scared by the changes in your body and life.
For me, emotional changes were inevitable and unpredictable. Sometimes I felt ecstatic and proud of myself for losing 50 pounds. Sometimes I felt sad and nostalgic for my old self and life. Sometimes I felt angry and resentful for the years I wasted being overweight. Sometimes I felt scared and anxious about maintaining my weight loss or gaining it back.
It’s important to acknowledge and process your feelings, and seek professional help if you need it.
For me, I found writing in a journal to be very helpful in expressing and understanding my emotions. I also talked to a therapist who helped me cope with the psychological aspects of losing 50 pounds. She helped me identify and challenge any negative thoughts or beliefs that were holding me back or causing me distress. She also helped me develop a positive self-image and a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
