Why Toothache?

Prevention is better than cure, so before we discuss the remedies for toothache, I would like to list the common reasons for toothache. However, if you are in a hurry or have an emergency, you can scroll down and read the remedy directly.

Commonly, irrespective of how severe the tooth pain is, it gets relief within a few minutes or hours. By using the mentioned treatment, you will get an instant relief. But if you have been encountering tooth pain for a long time, you must consult a dentist.

Tooth Decay – Tooth Decay is the biggest reason for severe pain which is caused by the attack of certain types of bacteria. Unhygienic oral health and not brushing regularly may lead to tooth decay. If you have tooth decay in multiple teeth, you should get a treat for your teeth.

Cavity – Cavity is a form of hole developed by various unhealthy bacteria. It is formed when acid in your mouth erodes the hard part of teeth known as enamel.

An infection – cavity and tooth decay collectively lead to an infection of the teeth. It may result in swelling and inflammation in the root of the tooth and you feel sudden pain like someone pulling your nerves.

Other reasons include a dental abscess (similar to an infection), damaged tooth, gum disease, issue in braces, irritation due to bacteria, etc.

Methods to get Relief in Toothache Quickly

A Pinch of Salt

Take a pinch of salt and put it in the infected area or the area where you feeling the pain. You might know that salt is a natural disinfectant and has inflammation properties that quickly attack the bacteria and get you instant relief.

Saltwater Rinse

Rinse with salt water is the most effective and quickly available method to get relief from tooth pain. This method works best when you are feeling pain in any complex area and a pinch of salt is not able to work. No need to run anywhere, just make salt and warm water solution at your home and rinse thoroughly.

Garlic

Garlic is frequently recognized for its medicinal properties and can treat your tooth pain quickly. It is effective enough to kill harmful bacteria and for the best practice, you can prepare a paste of this. You can also add a pinch of salt to make it more effective. Put this paste on the painful area to get relief.

Cold Compress

A cold compress can help you get rid of the pain especially if it is caused by swelling and comes with inflammation. Alternatively, you can use an ice pack against the outside area of pain. When you implement a cold compress, the blood vessels of the affected area get contracted and reduce the swelling.

Over-the-counter Pain Reliever

If home remedies are not very effective, you can move to over-the-counter painkillers. The most frequent working painkillers are Ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, and acetaminophen which help you in quick relief from the toothache. When OCT medicines are also ineffective, you might go through any serious problems and must be diagnosed.

When Should I Consult a Dentist?
