The Pen and Pencil

A Tale of Friendship and Understanding

By Alexruban APublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a small stationary store, there lived two very different writing instruments, a pen and a pencil. The pen was sleek and sophisticated, with a smooth black exterior and a confident click when it was ready to write. The pencil, on the other hand, was a bit rougher around the edges, with a yellow exterior and a tendency to break if you weren't careful.

Despite their differences, the pen and pencil were the best of friends. They spent their days nestled together in the pen and pencil holder, chatting with the other stationary and admiring the colourful array of notebooks and journals that surrounded them.

One day, a customer walked into the store and began to peruse the shelves. The pen and pencil watched as the customer picked up various writing instruments, trying them out on the scratch pad provided. The pen was confident that he would be chosen, but to his surprise, the customer picked up the pencil instead.

The pencil was elated to be chosen and eagerly began to scribble on the scratch pad. But as the days went on, the pen noticed that his friend wasn't as happy as he had initially been. The pencil began to complain about his dull point and the fact that he had to be sharpened constantly.

The pen didn't understand why the pencil was so unhappy. After all, the pen had a constant flow of ink and never had to be sharpened. But as he listened to his friend's complaints, the pen began to empathize with the pencil. He realized that his friend was struggling and wanted to help.

So, one night, when the store was closed, the pen and pencil hatched a plan. The pen suggested that they swap places in the pen and pencil holder, so that the pencil could be closer to the sharpener and the pen could be closer to the ink refills. The pencil was hesitant at first, but the pen convinced him that it was the best course of action.

The next day, when the store opened, the pen and pencil had switched places. The pencil was overjoyed to be closer to the sharpener, and the pen found that he actually enjoyed being closer to the ink refills. The two friends had worked together to find a solution that made them both happier.

From that day forward, the pen and pencil were even closer than before. They had learned that it was important to understand each other's struggles and work together to find a solution. They continued to spend their days in the pen and pencil holder, chatting with the other stationary and admiring the colourful array of notebooks and journals that surrounded them.

Years went by, and the pen and pencil remained the best of friends. They had been through so much together and had a bond that could not be broken. When the store closed down and the stationary was boxed up and shipped off to different locations, the pen and pencil were devastated. They had been separated, and it felt like a part of them was missing.

But fate had a way of bringing them back together. Years later, in a different store in a different part of town, the pen and pencil were reunited. They were both a bit older and a bit more worn, but their bond was as strong as ever. They spent their days together, reminiscing about old times and making new memories.

In the end, the pen and pencil realized that their friendship was what mattered most. It didn't matter where they were or what they were doing, as long as they were together. They had learned that sometimes the most important things in life were the relationships we formed and the memories we made.
