Ten Rules of Friendship

Pam sat by the large glass window of her dorm room in London, a cup of steaming tea in her hand and an open book resting on her lap. The city outside was alive with dazzling lights, but her mind was lost in the world of words. She had been reading for hours when her eyes landed on a particular line:

"And friends are the harmony secret…"

She paused, her fingers gently pressing against the page. A wave of nostalgia washed over her as she thought of her one and only best friend—Oom.

Pam and Oom had been inseparable since childhood. They had met on their first day of school, two shy girls sitting at the back of the classroom, nervously holding their new books. From that moment, their bond grew strong, filled with laughter, dreams, and endless conversations. They shared everything—lunches, secrets, and even their wildest ambitions. But life had taken them on different paths.

Pam, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, had been sent abroad to London for higher education, her father wanting her to experience the best academic opportunities. Oom, on the other hand, came from a middle-class family and had stayed in Thailand, studying at Bangkok University. Despite the distance, their friendship had remained unshaken. They talked whenever they could, sharing stories about their new lives.

As Pam stared at the sentence in her book, she smiled softly and reached for her phone. She scrolled through old pictures of her and Oom—pictures of them in school uniforms, laughing at their silly jokes, eating street food after school, and celebrating birthdays together.

She sighed, missing her best friend more than ever. Just as she was about to send a message, her phone buzzed. It was Oom.

Oom:"Hey, Pam! Just thinking about you. How’s London?"

Pam’s heart warmed. It was as if Oom had read her mind.

Pam:"I was just about to text you! London is fine, but I miss home… and I miss YOU!"

Oom:"I miss you too! Nothing’s the same without you here. Remember our favorite cafe? I went there today, and it felt so empty without our long talks."

Pam’s eyes softened. Their favorite cafe had been their little escape—a place where they would sit for hours, talking about their future, their dreams, and sometimes, their fears.

Pam:"I wish I could be there with you right now…"

Oom sent a laughing emoji.

Oom:"Me too! But no matter where we are, our friendship stays the same. Remember? We made a promise. No distance can break us!"

Pam smiled, remembering the promise they had made back in school. They had even written down their own "Ten Rules of Friendship", silly little rules that had kept them close all these years.

Pam:"You still remember our ten rules?"

Oom:"Of course! How could I forget?"

Pam leaned back, closing her eyes, memories flooding her mind. The "Ten Rules of Friendship"—they had written them on the last page of their school notebooks. Those rules had been their foundation, their guide to keeping their bond strong no matter what.

And now, Pam realized, those rules were more important than ever...
