The actor Victory Venkatesh from Tollywood makes his OTT debut in the hilarious online series Rana Naidu, which is currently available on Netflix India. The show is an Indian remake of the American television show Ray Donovan, which also stars Rana Daggubati. This Hindi series, which was directed by Suparn Verma and Karan Anshuman, is now streamable in a number of dubbed forms. See how the series is doing.
Story:
In Mumbai, celebrities turn to Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati) as their go-to problem solution. From Bollywood stars to cricket players, Rana Naidu is the first person who is contracted to fix a situation whenever any celebrity becomes involved. Together with his wife and kids, Rana Naidu also lives in Mumbai with his two brothers, Tej Naidu (Sushanth Singh) and Pawan Naidu, a.k.a. Jaffa (Abhishek Banerjee). When Rana Naidu’s father, Naga Naidu (Venkatesh Daggubati), returns to Bombay after serving a 15-year sentence in jail, however, everything changes. Rana Naidu despises his father utterly. Rana Naidu despises his father, but why? How did Naga Naidu’s arrival affect Rana Naidu’s way of life? What led to Naga Naidu’s imprisonment?
Plus Points:
Rana has most of the screen time, as the title indicates, and the actor gives one of his greatest performances in the program. Rana Naidu performed an excellent job fulfilling the role’s high expectations for an artist. Rana performs a fantastic job, displaying both a strong screen presence and a nuanced performance in situations with strong emotions. The performer executes his part flawlessly without going overboard.
With the series, Victorious Venkatesh gets a totally new look. The audience would be astonished to see Venky playing a character with dark shades and mouthing filthy language. Venkatesh is widely known for his heartwarming family plays. Venkatesh demonstrates that he can portray any kind of part with conviction, despite the fact that it first takes some getting used to. Seeing Venky in this strange position is enjoyable.
While being limited in number, the conflict moments between Rana and Venkatesh are entertaining to witness. The key role goes to Surveen Chawla after Rana and Venkatesh. She carried out her duties as Rana’s wife honorably. The upcoming Bollywood actor Abhishek Banerjee performed the role of Jaffa, who is a well-written character, and the actor delivered an excellent performance. Some people fit their positions perfectly. The latter four episodes were quite engaging and included some enjoyable moments.
Negative Points:
When a famous actor like Venkatesh debuts online, there are obviously expectations. Also, the public will undoubtedly anticipate that the play would be promising given that he is starring opposite Rana Daggubati. However, the series fell short of the enormous expectations and didn’t totally live up to the hype.
It becomes worse when a straightforward family narrative with a criminal backdrop that might have been conveyed quickly is drawn out unduly. The screenplay needs to work its magic when the story is flimsy. Yet, despite having the top performers on board, the majority of the series is dull and the writers were unable to create an interesting story.
The family drama is poorly defined, and the subplots lack depth and coherence. The presentation is rather bland and the program has no strong points at all. Only in the final few episodes does the show get steam, but by then the spectator has lost interest and it is too late. The editing staff performed a bad job since there are several tedious passages in the series that make it quite boring.
Because there are no censorship rules for online programs, it won’t be an issue if there is adult content or filthy language that fits in well with the story. Nonetheless, Rana Naidu uses more vulgar language and skin-showing scenes than is necessary, which irritates the audience.
Technical Details
The quality of the production is good. The background soundtrack during the climactic scenes is strong, and the music by John Stewart Eduri is passable overall. The gloomy crime world is well shown in Jayakrishna Gummadi’s cinematography, which is decent. Excellent Telugu dubbing was used. The series is tedious with lengthy sequences, therefore the editing staff should have put more effort into their job.
Suparn Verma and Karan Anshuman, the directors, performed below average with Rana Naidu. The premise doesn’t have enough substance, thus the series doesn’t provide enough room for the other artists to go all out. There isn’t enough drama to make the proceedings more interesting, and the writing is really poor. The event would have been a huge failure if not for Venkatesh and Rana’s outstanding performances.
Verdict:
Rana Naidu is a criminal action drama that, overall, mostly succeeds. There are a few nice moments in the most recent episodes. The poor screenplay and protracted runtime let down Rana and Venkatesh’s sincere performances. With Venky and Rana, you may still give the series a try, but be careful to keep your expectations in check.
Note: Due to its strong explicit material and coarse language, this series is only suitable for viewers aged 18 and over.
