Recounting what works for me

Join me in recounting what I use to reduce common cold symptoms into minor maladies that won't stop you in your tracks. Looking up research is often a daunting task that often times leaves us more confused than begging the question of trying to find consensus in a study or experiment. While browsing the conclusions of healthcare studies in the literature it is common to read for example,

"some studies conclude that zinc helps a cold while others indicate it can make it worse."

Other times, I recognize the ambivalence in these studies that proclaim tumeric in the correct concentration ( at least 95% curcuminoids and with pepper) and doses reduces inflammation and other studies report, "inconclusive." We can spend endless hours researching these studies and reading them or we can just drive down to the local health food store and have a conversation with the specialist in a certain area of health.

Today it is relatively simple and easy to visit a health-food store and explore the plethora of supplements available for us to buy hoping to give us an edge on healing a medical problem. Because I have a child under age ten, I have the perfect lab to experiment with trying these supplements early to see how well they can reduce a common cold virus and its symptoms. This weekend was the 5th time I have tried to take the following supplements at the very first sign of a common cold that my child picked up from school. I jump into action at the first sign of a runny, stuffy nose, sore throat, and usually headache that my child gets and/or I get.

Immune Rescue: Astralagus Root, Echinacea, Garlic bulb, Maitake Mushroom, Shitake Mushroom, Isatis Root, Forsythia Fruit, Honeysuckle Flower, Beta Glucan. I just take and follow the recommended amount of capsules on the label.

Essential Oils: Thieves (clove, cinnamin bark, lemon, rosemary, eucalyptus) and Frankincense. I usually just put one drop in a cup of water of each and drink. Sometimes, I will put a drop of Frankincense on my thumb and put it on the roof of my mouth before bed.

Vitamin D3

Olive leaf extract (ground up)

Tumeric with (95% curcuminoids and pepper) fat soluble

Of course one must still sleep ok, eat a well balanced meal and so on to maintain a baseline of health but the above works for me to reduce my symptoms. I report that my symptoms shrink down to about 10-20% of a stuffy nose, sore throat, and headache vs. a full blown running, stuffy nose and headache that is more severe and stops you in your tracks for hours, days, and sometimes weeks. The duration of my mild symptoms usually disappear in a few days.

Of course there are teas and other forms of supplements that you might find work for you. To conclude, because I have had repeated success in my approach, I figured I would share this with you today. I find it interesting how we have to discover what works best for us vs. any medical doctor advising or promoting what surely works if experimented with properly and safely. I imagine medical doctors might fear be being liable for someone's allergic reaction or some negative consequences that can happen. So, they just stick to the routine in the medical journals that they can back up with proof and hopefully not get sued.
