Instagram Accounts to Add Education to Your Feed

2020 Has certainly been a year that is one for the history books. A worldwide pandemic, murder hornets, UFO's, and unrest in the fighting of imperative social justice issues that have plagued humankind for far too long. If you're feeling lost in all the new information released day- to- day, or struggle to understand the basics of Black Lives Matter or any other social injustice movements, these accounts can help bring light to those questions of yours.

1. @soyouwanttotalkabout

(So You Want to Talk About) This account is FILLED with all different information about endless social justice issues and social topics. They utilize the slides in each of their Instagram posts to deliver relevant facts about whichever topic they address in their first slide of each given posts. Currently, some of their topics addressed include, "The NYPD," "Racism 101," "Anti- Racism," "Prison Reform," "White Fragility" and much, much more.

2. @realdepressionproject

(The Depression Project) This account is dedicated to delivering facts and resources for mental health. They address all the avenues of mental health, talk about the symptoms, and offer advice on how to have conversations with people who may be mentally struggling. They often tailor their posts to be relevant of what is going on in the world, and are a line of support for almost 150 thousand Instagram followers. They have a TikTok as well!

3. @campaignzero

(Campaign Zero) Is becoming well-known for their 8 Can't Wait Campaign, which calls for direct and immediate changes in policing. A new account, their posts currently share information about their campaign and why it is SO IMPORTANT to call upon our mayors and other elected officials to immediately make these crucial changes to how our police do their jobs. You can also head to 8cantwait.org for more information about the nonprofit organization and the changes they are calling to be made.

4. @naacp

(NAACP Nonprofit) The NAACP's Instagram account is filled with information and updates about the Black Lives Matter movement. You can find several video clips and IGTV videos that are informative about the movement itself, along with what is currently happening regarding the movement. They are a nonprofit organization who has been actively collecting donations since the senseless murder of George Floyd.

5. @mentalhealthamerica

(Mental Health America) Another nonprofit organization, Mental Health America offers education and support to those who may suffer from mental illness or know someone with mental illness. On their site, they offer mental health screenings. They have access to crisis support directly on their Instagram account, which can be utilized via text message or phone call.

6. @mentalhealthcoalition

(The Mental Health Coalition) This account also offers a crisis text hotline, and their feed is filled with supportive posts. Some posts offer de-stress advice, others validate your struggles, even grounding techniques. This is a great page to follow for anyone aligns themselves with being supportive or a part of this community and wish to connect more directly with the cause.

7. @phenomenal

(Phenomenal) This is a female- powered life style brand which works to bring awareness to various social issues. Their feed is filled with statistics, personal statements, and support a range of movements with their clothing line.

8. @homefromcollege

(Home From College) This college based community focuses their account on providing content, sense of community and resources to college students. A lot of their recent content offers ways to support the Black Lives Matter movement, recommend activities to do between school sessions and start conversations.

9. @pinknews

(Pink News) Self- proclaimed news and media website, Pink News shares stories from members of the LGBT+ community. They share information regarding the LGBT+ community and offer advice on how to be an ally.
