Inside My Daily Routine as a Work-From-Home Mom

Let’s be real: being a work-from-home mom sounds dreamy until you realize you’re juggling Zoom meetings with diaper changes and snack demands. Somewhere between responding to emails and cleaning up spilled cereal, you start questioning your life choices. But over time, I’ve found a rhythm (mostly). Want a peek into my daily chaos with a touch of sanity? Grab your coffee, lukewarm, I’m guessing, and read on!

7:00 AM – The Pre-Coffee Hustle

My day starts not with birdsong, but with the dulcet tones of "Moooooooom!" It’s an alarm clock I didn’t set, yet never misses. I stumble out of bed like a cast member from The Walking Dead, heading straight for the coffee pot. Priorities.

While the kids (ages 3 and 6) get into a sibling debate over whose turn it is to pick a morning cartoon, I make breakfast. It's usually a balance of healthy and realistic—think eggs and toast with a side of dinosaur-shaped fruit snacks.

8:00 AM – Power Hour... Sort of

After some coaxing, breakfast is served, faces are wiped, and I open my laptop. My husband is already barricaded in the spare room that doubles as his office. Me? I’m working from the dining table, because the Wi-Fi is best here—and I can see what kind of trouble the kids are getting into.

I usually check emails, plan out the day, and pray the toddler doesn’t try to “wash” the dog again. This hour is golden (when it goes smoothly), and it sets the tone for the rest of my workday.

9:00 AM – The Great Divide: Work vs. Momming

Here’s where things get... interesting. I switch hats faster than a magician. One second, I’m in a virtual meeting about marketing strategy. The next, I’m negotiating with a tiny human about why pants are non-negotiable today.

One thing that’s helped immensely? Scheduling blocks of time for focused work. Another? Finding tips on blogger mom blogs; those life-saving corners of the internet where seasoned moms drop gems of wisdom like “only schedule calls during nap time” or “baby wipes clean anything.”

Seriously, some of these blogger mom blogs are the best sanity-saving advice columns I never knew I needed.

11:00 AM – Snack Attack & Dance Breaks

If you think kids need snacks every hour on the hour, you’re not wrong. Cue the mid-morning snack frenzy. It’s also when I realize I haven’t eaten anything yet. Cue peanut butter toast—round two.

We usually squeeze in a dance party around this time. It's the perfect energy booster for both me and the kids. Also, it's an excellent distraction while I try to sneak in another email or review some copy.

12:30 PM – Lunch & Learning Moments

Lunchtime is less about the food and more about convincing the kids to eat something that isn’t shaped like a nugget. I use this time to multitask like a pro—cleaning up the morning’s chaos while chatting with the kids about their favorite part of the day (so far).

If I’m lucky, this is also when I can check in on a few blogger mom blogs to get fresh activity ideas or even a five-minute recipe for dinner. Inspiration often strikes when I see another mom rocking it—or failing fabulously and owning it.

2:00 PM – Naptime Nirvana / Quiet Time for the Big Kid

This is the holy grail of my day. One kid naps, the other gets quiet time with books or (real talk) an educational tablet game. I go into turbo work mode. This is when I write, plan content, hop into meetings, and get real stuff done.

Sometimes, I even get to sip hot coffee. I know. Wild.

4:00 PM – Reset and Reconnect

The post-nap grumps are real. So is the snack demand (again). We usually go outside—whether it’s the backyard, a walk, or just scooter races in the driveway. It’s a great reset for everyone and helps burn off the excess energy that otherwise explodes right before dinner.

5:30 PM – Dinner Chaos & Family Time

Dinner is like an Olympic sport: who can make a meal while simultaneously stopping a crayon mural on the wall and dealing with a last-minute client email? That’s me. Gold medalist.

We try to sit down together, and I say "try" because someone usually ends up under the table or boycotting broccoli. It’s all part of the charm.

7:00 PM – Bedtime Battles

Bath, books, bedtime. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. It’s a three-act drama filled with plot twists (like hiding under the bed) and spontaneous declarations of hunger. But eventually, they’re asleep.

Cue the angels singing.

8:00 PM – Me Time or... More Work

Depending on how behind I am, I either tackle more tasks or finally sit down to unwind. Netflix, a book, or sometimes scrolling through—you guessed it—blogger mom blogs to see how other moms are managing this wild WFH life. Solidarity is soothing.

Closing Thoughts

Being a work-from-home mom is a juggling act with no rehearsal. But somehow, every day, it works. Not perfectly, not always smoothly, but beautifully in its own way.

And if you’re ever feeling like you’re the only one winging it—just know, you’re not. Somewhere, there’s a blogger mom sharing her mess, her wins, and her reality. And trust me, reading those stories has helped me embrace my own.

Because no matter how messy the routine gets, we’re doing the work that matters most.
