I Was Stuck in My Job…
Until I Realized I Was Asking the Wrong Question

For years, I followed the traditional path to success:
✔ Work hard.
✔ Get a degree.
✔ Land a good job.
✔ Climb the corporate ladder.
It’s what we’ve all been taught, right? That if we do everything “right,” we’ll eventually find security, happiness, and fulfillment.
But what happens when you do all that and still feel stuck?
I had a steady paycheck, a comfortable job, and yet, every day felt the same. I would wake up, go to work, check the clock a hundred times, and count down to the weekend. Monday through Friday blurred into a cycle of waiting—for a raise, for a promotion, for some undefined moment that would make it all worthwhile.
The truth? That moment never came.
I spent years waiting for something to happen to me, instead of making it happen for myself.
Then, I had a realization that changed everything.
The Question That Shifted My Entire Perspective
I used to ask myself:
"What’s my next job?"
"How can I find something better?"
"Where should I apply next?"
And every time, I got the same answer: more job applications, more interviews, more hoping that someone else would give me the opportunity I was looking for.
Then, one day, I asked a different question:
What if the key isn’t finding a better job… but creating better opportunities?
That single shift in thinking transformed my life.
Instead of searching for new jobs, I positioned myself for success in a way that made opportunities come to me.
Instead of relying on promotions, I increased my own value and found new ways to earn.
Instead of trying to fit into existing roles, I built a future where I was in control.
That’s why I wrote my book, “The JOB: Just Opportunities Building”—because I realized so many people are stuck in the same loop I was. And no one teaches us how to break free.
How to Stop Feeling Stuck in Your Career
If you feel like you’re just going through the motions, here’s what I wish someone had told me sooner:
1. Stop Looking for a Job—Start Looking for Leverage
A job isn’t the goal. Leverage is.
Your job should be a stepping stone to more options, more control, and more financial stability. That means:
✔ Developing high-value skills.
✔ Building a personal brand that makes you stand out.
✔ Creating income streams beyond your paycheck.
Instead of thinking, “Who’s hiring?”—ask yourself, “How can I make myself indispensable?”
2. Own Your Value—Don’t Let Someone Else Define It
Too many people rely on their employer to determine their worth. They wait for a raise, a title change, or external validation before they believe they deserve more.
Here’s the reality: If you don’t own your value, someone else will dictate it for you.
Learn to market your skills. Negotiate what you’re worth. Build something that belongs to you—whether it’s a side hustle, a business, or a network that gives you power.
3. Position Yourself So Opportunities Find You
The best opportunities rarely come from job applications. They come from:
✔ Your network—Who knows you, trusts you, and recommends you.
✔ Your expertise—What you’ve built that makes people want to work with you.
✔ Your visibility—How well you’re positioned as someone worth knowing.
This is how high performers get ahead—because they aren’t searching for opportunities, they’re attracting them.
