I Let AI Plan My Life for a Week — Here's What Happened

Spoiler: I Nearly Became a Productivity Guru (But Also Questioned My Humanity)

By Gift Abotsi Published 10 months ago 3 min read

We live in a world where algorithms know us better than our best friends. They suggest what we should eat, wear, watch, and even date. So I decided to take it one step further — I handed over the reins of my entire life to AI for one week. That’s right. From what time I woke up, to what I ate, what I wore, when I worked, rested, exercised, and even texted people — all decisions were made by a virtual assistant. No overthinking, no procrastination, no "I’ll do it later." Just me and the code. Here's how it went.

---

Day 1: Welcome to the AI Regime

My experiment began on a Monday morning at 6:30 a.m., courtesy of a loud alarm and a blunt AI-generated message: “Rise and shine. Time to stretch, meditate, and drink water.” No snoozing allowed.

I started with a 10-minute meditation recommended by the AI, followed by a cold shower (which I regretted immediately). Breakfast was a green smoothie I wouldn’t usually touch, but hey — AI said it boosts brain function, so I slurped it down like a loyal subject.

By the time I sat at my desk, I had a fully optimized to-do list categorized by urgency, energy levels, and mental focus. And surprisingly? I got more done before noon than I usually manage in an entire day.

Day 2-3: The Honeymoon Phase

The next two days felt like I was living in a productivity commercial. I was working in 90-minute focused sprints, eating nutrient-packed meals, and journaling in the evenings. I wasn’t wasting time scrolling social media or binge-watching shows out of boredom — AI had scheduled my screen time down to the minute.

It even told me when to message friends: “Reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.” So I texted my old roommate. We ended up having a great catch-up call. AI: 1, human laziness: 0.

---

Day 4: The Existential Crisis

By Thursday, the cracks began to show. I felt robotic. Every moment of my day was planned, timed, executed. There was no room for randomness, no spontaneous singing in the shower or late-night walks. I missed the unpredictability that made life...well, life.

AI had turned me into a machine — a very efficient one — but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was losing touch with my own instincts. What did I want? Not what AI suggested I wanted.

Day 5-6: The Rebellion

I cheated. I skipped a workout. I had pancakes for dinner instead of quinoa salad. I watched a movie past my “recommended sleep window.” And you know what? It felt amazing.

I realized that while AI can help structure my life, I still need to be human. I need moments of chaos, cravings, and curveballs. AI might optimize my time, but it can’t measure the joy of dancing in your room to a nostalgic song at midnight.

---

Day 7: The Balance

By Sunday, I decided to create a hybrid plan: let AI suggest, but not dictate. I used it as a guide, not a boss. I kept the structured mornings and task batching. I ditched the overly strict meals and reintroduced free time for absolutely nothing.

Final Thoughts:

Letting AI plan my life for a week was eye-opening. I discovered how much time I waste, how scattered my days can be, and how beneficial some structure is. But I also learned that too much control — even from an intelligent system — takes away the spontaneity that makes us human.

So would I recommend trying it? Absolutely. But take it with a grain of salt (and maybe a side of fries the AI didn’t approve of).

Because life’s not just about efficiency — it’s also about joy, mess, and a little bit of unpredictability.
