"Tips and Strategies for Enjoying Alcohol Without Compromising Your Weight Loss Goals"

First of all, moderation is the key

Try light verities and pick drinks with more alcohol and less sugar

Added calories Remain in the body for 48 hours and cause weight gain and stomach fat

Drink more water to avoid Dehydration

Drink lemon water and eating healthy the next morning is best for detoxification

Rule #1: Always eat when you drink

While Harvard research indicates that it is prudent to add in some cocktail calories, the experts emphasize that eating right is actually more important than eating less. Skimping on food to “make room” for drinks will only make you backfire and send you straight down the candied nut bowl. Here’s why: most drinks are filled with simple carbohydrates, “and people end up soaring blood sugar during a drinking night, accompanied by a ‘crash’ that leaves them ravenous,” says Jason Burke, MD, an anesthesiologist and researcher of the hangover recovery clinic in Las Vegas (where else?).

Don’t drink before bed.

Rule #2: Know that some drinks make you hungrier than others

The easier the drink, the better when it comes to Waist-friendly cocktails. Not only do sweet-and-fancy people tend to have more calories, but the extra sugar can make you even more hungry: your blood sugar skyrockets are higher than beer , wine, or a shot of something, making the plummet (and the resulting cravings) worse.

Rule #3: Stick to a drink or two, tops

One drink a day is the widely accepted definition of moderate drinking for women, but among some bar-hoppers, there’s a misconception that you can go without alcohol all week and save your seven drinks for the weekend. “That’s probably the worst thing you can do with your weight,” says Dr Peeke. (And for your well-being of course.) “This has a far bigger effect than one drink a day.”

Rule #4: Beware that gnawing, starving feeling the next day

The morning after that poses the challenge of a new diet. You fight cravings for large amounts of cheesy, greasy fast food as if a hangover weren’t punishment enough. Part of the issue is you’re dehydrated (don’t forget that alcohol is a diuretic), which may make you feel even more thirsty, Karst states. Yet it’s not the only thing that is at hand. “The body needs energy to overcome the effects of a major drinking night so it requires the best energy supply it can find, which is fat,” says Dr Burke. “And greasy foods seem to settle a little bit in the stomach.”

Here are some points on how to drink beer/alcohol without getting fat:

- Drink in moderation: Consuming alcohol in moderation is key to avoiding weight gain. Limit your alcohol consumption to one or two drinks per day, depending on your gender, weight, and age.

- Choose low-calorie drinks: Opt for low-calorie beers, wine spritzers, or spirits mixed with diet soda or tonic water to reduce your calorie intake.

- Avoid sugary cocktails: Sugary cocktails, such as margaritas or piña coladas, are loaded with calories and can quickly add up to unwanted weight gain.

- Watch your mixers: Be aware that mixers like tonic water or juice contain added sugar and calories that can contribute to weight gain. Opt for mixers that are low in calories or sugar-free.

- Eat a balanced meal before drinking: Eating a balanced meal before drinking can help slow down alcohol absorption and prevent overeating later in the night.

- Stay hydrated: Drinking water in between alcoholic beverages can help you stay hydrated and reduce your calorie intake.

- Exercise regularly: Regular exercise can help you burn calories and maintain a healthy weight even if you indulge in the occasional drink.

- Avoid drinking before bedtime: Drinking before bedtime can interfere with your sleep quality and cause you to gain weight. Stick to drinking earlier in the evening and allow time for your body to metabolize the alcohol before going to bed.
