How to cope with the fear of dentist

By IssueResolverPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

I have always had a fear of going to the dentist. Just the thought of sitting in the dental chair made me feel anxious, and I avoided going to the dentist as much as possible, even though I knew that regular checkups were essential for good dental health.

I remember my first trip to the dentist when I was just six years old. I had a cavity that needed to be filled, and I was terrified of the drill. The sound of it made my heart race, and I remember feeling like I couldn't breathe. After that experience, I developed a deep-seated fear of going to the dentist that stayed with me into adulthood.

Despite my fear, I knew that I needed to take better care of my teeth. I had always struggled with sensitive teeth and cavities, and I knew that I needed to find a way to overcome my fear so that I could get the dental care I needed.

One day, while browsing through a bookstore, I stumbled upon a book titled "Take Control of Your Dental Health" by Alice Barnes. Intrigued, I decided to purchase the book and give it a read.

As I delved into the book, I discovered new insights about demineralization and remineralization and how they related to the real cause of cavities. I had previously believed that cavities were solely caused by eating sugary foods and not brushing my teeth enough. However, Alice Barnes revealed that there was more to it than that.

The book explained that demineralization occurs when the pH level in the mouth drops below a certain level, causing minerals to be leached from the teeth. This can be caused by eating acidic foods, drinking sugary drinks, and not brushing or flossing regularly. I learned that my teeth were capable of repairing themselves through a process called remineralization. This process occurs when the pH level in the mouth is raised back to a neutral level, allowing minerals to be reabsorbed into the teeth.

I found this new knowledge fascinating and empowering, realizing that I could take control of my dental health. I started implementing the strategies outlined in the book, such as reducing my intake of sugary drinks and eating more alkaline foods, as well as brushing and flossing regularly.

Over time, I noticed a significant improvement in my dental health. I no longer experienced sensitivity or pain in my teeth, and my dentist even commented on how my teeth looked healthier and stronger.

Most importantly, I no longer felt anxious about going to the dentist. Equipped with the knowledge I had gained from Alice Barnes' book, I felt in control of my dental health and confident in my ability to maintain it.

In fact, during my last dental checkup, I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed the experience. I was able to have a conversation with the dentist about my teeth and the things I had learned from the book. The dentist was impressed by my newfound knowledge and commitment to my dental health.

As I left the dental office, I felt proud of myself for facing my fear and taking control of my dental health. I knew that I still had work to do, but I was confident that I could continue to make positive changes and maintain my healthy smile.

I was also grateful to Alice Barnes for writing such an informative and helpful book. It had truly changed my life and given me a new appreciation for the importance of dental health.

Since reading the book, I have recommended it to friends and family members who also struggle with dental anxiety. I even started a small dental health group where we discuss the latest research and tips for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
