Cayman was once a heavenly abode to more than two million sea turtles and hosted one of the largest breeding colonies for Green sea turtles worldwide. For the earliest immigrants, it was the primary source of nourishment. By the 1900s, the species was on the brink of extinction!

The extinction was due to climate change, ocean plastic pollution, overharvesting of eggs, and non-discriminatory commercial fishing.

The Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre is helping conserve these species so they will be here for generations.
