Now let us look at some basic security risks in and around your home.
Security Risks in and around your home
By just keeping your windows and door shut and locked doesn’t mean that you are safe. Especially during these modern times as technology has evolved so has the methods used by burglars. Similar to people having professional careers, there are actually professional burglars who are very much familiar with the types of home that are built, how to make the break-in and how to easily get out without being spooked whatsoever. There are cases where the homeowners didn’t even know that a burglary occurred.
Here are some of the basic security risks that can be found in most homes:
Hiding keys in obvious spots: It is very common to see that people hide things that are very easy or too obvious, helping the intruders to spot. Keys are the best example. People tend to keep a key outside their home to prevent from being locked out or when one forgets to take the key from home or leaves a key somewhere else. Make sure to hide them far away from the door which makes it less obvious such as hiding under a fake rock which is mixed with other rocks.
Keeping valuables out of sight: Windows in your home are just like a two way street. Similar to when you can see through the window intruders can also see through. Valuables when kept in places such as ground floor rooms or bedrooms, cupboards etc. are not so difficult for burglaries to find as they are some of the common places people use to hide things. Make sure to hide valuables by tucking in certain places or in wall safes which cannot be penetrated easily. Ensure your window shades or blinds are shut by evening or even during daylight time to avoid see through situations.
Alarm systems: As we mentioned earlier, technology has evolved so much than never before making it versatile. There are several home alarm systems that are available now. Installing such a security system that cannot be directly visible from outside can be a long pro factor making it impossible for the intruders to manipulate and thereby keeping your home safe and secure.
Updating social media status: Making social media updates on your whereabouts make it easier for people to know where you are and what you are doing. According to the current modern times people tend to update their whole life in social media with respect to posts, live location sharing, stories, status updates etc. Social media settings are linked to your every account default to the public and if the criminals search for homes that are vacant or out-of-town with the right keywords, it is easier for them to break-in. Feel free to post about your travels after you reach home. Ensure your accounts are private so sharing posts won’t go out and making it difficult to narrow down the audience and search visibility.
Overflowing mails: It doesn’t take that much time for criminals to make a pit-stop when they see mail boxes piled up or newspapers or magazines scattered through your doorstep. Ensure to direct your mail to your closest relative or your closest friends home while you are away. You can even suspend the service until you come home so that it can be easy for them and yourself.
Looking Ahead
Ensure to look out of the above mentioned security risks and take upon preventive measures to avoid any problems that can happen in your home. Keeping in mind these security risks can help you and your loved ones safe and secure. Don’t assume that crime never happens to you despite the measures taken. Crimes happen everywhere, everyday, around every neighbourhood. Staying up to date with the security measures can help you prevent any such break-ins to a limit. "
