Changing your home with the seasons
some ideas on changing your home through out the year to reflect the seasons

As the seasons change we feel the cool nip in the air of Autumn. Leafs start the change from vibrant greens to vivid oranges and reds as they fall from the trees. Acorns litter the ground and the evenings draw darker earlier. This is my favourite time of year as you start to spend the evenings with scented candles and cosy cups of coffee. I know we decorate our houses for Christmas but maybe consider decorating for the change of seasons to help you feel freshness within your home. So what might you consider doing to help your home feel aestheticly pleasing for each passing season.

Candles are always something that makes your house feel like a cosy home. The nice thing about scented candles is they are a simple change that can help your home have a completely different feel. Scents like pumpkin spice and almond give an autumnal feel. Cinnamon and other rich spices are great in winter and really help give a Christmas vibe in your home during the festive season. Then lighter scents such as linen and white jasmine for spring and summer help give a fresh and bright aroma to your home.

Changing your cushions and other soft furnishings may not have been something you had thought about changing with the seasons. But having lighter cushions with more natural colours and light blues and yellows for spring and summer help brighten up the room and give it a fresh lightness. Where as fuller colours, like reds and orange, during autumn and winter help make the home feel cosy and inviting from the cold. Adding extra touches during the winter like blankets in the living room and draught excluder can help keep the warmth in the home. Quilted blankets on the beds help give your bedroom snug vibe during winter. Where as door stops help the air flow through the home and can really keep the summer openness in the home during the hotter months.

If you celebrate Christmas holidays then you most likely already decorate your home for this time of year. But have you thought about decorating for the other seasons also. I’m not saying going out and spending lots of money on expensive ornaments but bringing a little of the season in to the home décor can really change a feel of the room. Plants and flowers really can change a vibe of a room, like having daffodils in spring can feel vibrant while red amaryllis in winter can bring depth into a room. House plants are soothing and have been linked with helping mental health they can also be a good place to hang decorations from whether its a Christmas star or a glass shard in summer, plants can be more then just something to look after. Another plant you can bring into the home is squash or mini pumpkins to help bring the outside in during autumn.
Changing table cloths and place mats can also give your home a new feeling with bright light colours during the warmer months and richer darker tones for the colder seasons.
Changing your home décor slightly as the year passes helps gives you the new home feeling throughout. Don’t shy away from spending time on and in your home, especially with things as they are at the moment. Create a space you enjoy being in will help pick up your mood and give you a sense of grounding.
