Coffee and Lemon for weightloss

You may have heard from others that adding lemon to coffee can help you lose weight, but there is no scientific research to support this. It's important for people who want to lose weight to follow the nutritional advice of their health professional. This article examines the existing evidence on coffee and lemon for managing weight and whether adding both to drinks helps.

Does adding lemon to coffee help weight loss? No scientific evidence supports the use of lemon coffee for weight loss. Some studies do show that coffee can help you lose weight. However, there is no research that shows that adding lemon to coffee increases this effect.

Additionally, it is important for people trying to lose weight to talk to a health professional to receive nutritional advice backed by science. Online articles that are not supported by scientific research may provide misleading or even false diet information.

Can coffee help you lose weight? Some evidence does show that drinking coffee can help you lose weight.

A 2023 study found that people with metabolic syndrome who changed their habit of not drinking coffee to drinking 1 to 7 cups a week lost body fat around the waist. This study was conducted in the midst of a Mediterranean diet and physical activity intervention. It was explained that coffee's bioactive compounds can inhibit fat cell growth and increase metabolism.

Some people also believe that green coffee supplements can help you lose weight. Green coffee beans are not roasted, unlike regular coffee beans. A 2019 systematic review concluded that green coffee supplements can cause weight loss, reduce fat percentage, and lower body mass index (BMI). Of course, more research is needed to determine the correlation between green coffee and weight loss. So, is lemon an effective weight loss aid? Lemons may become popular as a weight loss aid through the lemon water diet. However, there is little evidence that the lemon water diet works, and the main effect is probably due to drinking more water rather than adding lemon.

For example, studies show that drinking water before meals can lead to eating less and can be an effective weight loss strategy. Some studies show that the lemon detox diet helps with weight loss, but this is through calorie restriction. Additionally, a 2020 animal study suggests that lemon extract may improve insulin sensitivity and fat breakdown, but this may not be the case in humans.

Does adding lemon to coffee have any nutritional advantages? Lemons are a good source of antioxidants. Lemon antioxidants have anti-inflammatory properties and ward off oxidative stress in the body. Lemons contain 34.4 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C per fruit, which is 45% of the recommended daily intake (RDA) of 75 mg for adult women and 38% of the RDA of 90 mg for men. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), vitamin C may help protect you against cardiovascular disease and age-related macular degeneration as well as shorten the duration of the common cold.

Risks of Adding Lemon to Coffee

Acidic drinks and foods can have a negative effect on teeth. For example, a previous study compared various drinks such as soda, juice, tap water, and lemon juice. Lemon juice shows higher erosion of tooth dentin and enamel than all other liquids. In addition, the caffeine in coffee can cause side effects in some people. Mild effects include: frequent urination, anxiety, increased or irregular heartbeat, insomnia, stomach ache, restlessness, muscle twitches or tremors.

Some people may also experience more severe effects of caffeine, such as disorientation or seizures. Caffeine can also cause withdrawal symptoms lasting up to a week if regular users suddenly stop. Therefore, experts recommend that a person reduce caffeine gradually.
