Purchasing your first house is a great investment and is always exhilarating. But if you're a new homeowner, you'll have to start from scratch and buy everything you need for it to feel homier. You'll probably have to start buying various pieces of furniture, appliances, decorations, kitchen tools, and more.

While you're at it, don't forget to buy your basic plumbing toolkit too in case something emergency goes wrong with your pipes or faucets. However, if it turns out to be a huge problem, you have to immediately call a plumber Bankstown professional.

To get an idea which tools you should buy for your basic plumbing needs if necessary, here is a list that we've collated.

Plunger

This could be the most basic plumbing tool that every house should have. It is very cheap and can be bought in any of your local groceries. Also, it is considered as one of the essentials for every homeowner as it is very helpful for unclogging a toilet. But did you know that you can also use a plunger for a clogged sink drain and shower drain? Yes, you definitely can. However, you should be keeping at least two plungers. One dedicated for your bathroom and the other one solely for your sink drain. If you haven't heard about it before, here's how you can unclog your sink and shower drain using a plumber.

Drain snake

Are your toilet, sink, and shower drain constantly clogged but a plunger couldn't do the trick? Then you'd have to have a drain snake at home to help dislodge those clogs. This works the opposite way a plunger does. While you push the snake farther into the drain, the parts of the clog break up and it will be pulled up. Drain snakes are really useful especially because they are long enough to reach the drain pipes.

Wrenches

There are at least two kinds of wrenches that every homeowner should have in case of any emergency plumbing needed. One is the basin wrench for loosening and tightening nuts that hold sink faucets. On the other hand, a pipe wrench is used to tighten and loosen threaded pipes. But, if you're not exactly sure on how to properly use these wrenches for emergency purposes, you can just immediately call your local plumber.

Rubber gloves

Whether you're fixing your broken pipes, unclogging your toilet, or handling anything that could be dirty or dangerous, rubber gloves are a must. Not only does it help your hands be protected from sharp objects that could wound you, but also keeps it clean. So the next time you go to the groceries, make sure to buy at least two or three pairs of heavy-duty gloves which you can use for other purposes.

Teflon tape

Plumber's tape, PTFE tape, or a thread seal tape is used for sealing pipe threads or any leak issues. Using this is considered a temporary fix for pipe or faucet leaks in case your plumber can't come immediately. A leaky faucet means a huge waste of water that could hike up your water bills if left for a long time. So, if any of your faucets or pipes are leaking, all you have to do is learn how to put a Teflon tape.

Tape measure

One of the most basic yet most useful tools in your toolkit should be a tape measure. It is highly useful when taking exact measurements of basically everything that needs to be measured. Using a tape measure can help you avoid buying expensive items by merely estimating their rough length. Also, it is a small and cheap item that would not take up much space when placed inside your toolbox.

The basic plumbing tools might differ from household to household. And whatever you think you might need for your temporary plumbing needs, make sure to include it in your toolkit.
