5 Useful Things Everyone Should Learn and Practice
These are tips we might have heard but may have missed to take action due to our busy lives.
I’ll tell you 5 useful things that everyone should learn and practice. Sometimes, we’ve less time to think about our needs. We know what we should do, but we forget to do it because we’re chasing after time. This article serves as a reminder. You can save these tips to your reading list if they can be applied to your life.
Let’s begin.
1. Always Pay Attention and Take Care of Your Physical Health
It’s not about being the most muscular, the strongest, fittest, or the fastest. It’s about staying healthy and keeping health problems away. In my opinion, one of the best ways is to keep your heart healthy. When the heart is working well, most health problems can be managed.
Enjoy all foods in moderation and keep a list for:
Foods that help you to achieve a healthy hormonal balance
Foods for the heart
Foods that detox or burn unwanted calories
Foods that keep skin and hair healthy
Foods that keep joints, tendons, and cartilage healthy
Foods that help your nervous system healthy
Foods that help you sleep better.
It’s good to do strength training three to four times a week and some low-intensity endurance training to maintain strength and endurance, especially as we get older.
2. Never Neglect Self-Care
Never neglect yourself. Keep yourself in shape, shower regularly and practice personal hygiene, and wear clean clothes.
It doesn’t matter who was born more or less better looking than you. It’s how you handle your own gift that the universe has given you. Take care of yourself no matter who speaks positively or negatively about you. Someone will say you look good, and someone will say you don’t look good, but no matter what… you’re still responsible for brushing your teeth and showering the next day, and no one can do that for you but yourself.
Make your mental and emotional health your priority. Check on what is consuming your energy and killing your daily peace and productivity. Be aware of what you consume through your five senses. Stay away from hanging around negative people, listening to negative comments, negative self-talk or even having intimate relationships with negative people.
3. Learn to Defend and Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones
We don’t have to be full-time soldiers or world champions in kickboxing to learn to defend ourselves.
We should always be equipped with the basic knowledge to protect ourselves and our loved ones. You can join a self-defense course. Nowadays, there are many YouTube videos that show how to protect yourself and your loved ones. There are many tips for men and women. You can use them as an additional lesson. It’s always good to take a class like Muay Thai boxing or Jujitsu to learn some life-saving skills and do practical exercises.
Keep practicing and honing your skills. When you learn to defend and protect yourself, you must also learn to deal with your ego. For example, if you’re with your loved ones and few “trouble-makers” approach you to cause trouble, you must choose the option that best protects you and your loved ones, rather than immediately lunging at the few “trouble-makers” with ego and impulsiveness like a superhero from the movies.
Usually, adversity or an attack can happen:
During unexpected moments when the assailants are pretty sure, you’re unable to defend or retaliate when they attack you.
When the assailants are pretty sure that they have strong support from their group of assailants who can join forces to attack you
Caused by those who lack consequential thinking abilities
Because the assailant/s are suffering from some unmanaged mental disorders
Caused by an Ego-driven mindset
Many other unknown reasons….
A smart fighter is also a strategic thinker who knows when to be ready, how to de-escalate, and how to manoeuvre adverse circumstances to his advantage, to bring the bad situation under control and prevent greater harm or damage.
When it comes to fighting smart, you need to learn and practice every day. It’s about thinking ahead and reacting quickly. When the attack begins, there’s no time to think.
Also remember that it’s not always about fighting the battle physically. Sometimes, you just need to build a golden bridge for your opponent to retreat.
“Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across.” — Sun Tzu
“The supreme excellence in fighting is to break the enemy's resistance without fighting.” — Sun Tzu
4. Build a Safety Net for You and Your Loved Ones
It’s always important to build a safety net. Many of us are already doing this. In case, someone is confused and doesn’t know what or how to plan for their life, then... here are some basic tips:
Always work on learning new skills. For example, how to build a side hustle or earn a certificate in content marketing.
Be deliberate and consistent in your financial planning. For example, manage your savings by always saving first before you spend.
Plan your retirement. What’ll it be like to relax and enjoy in old age without worrying much or working much?
Inquire about appropriate insurance policies to protect yourself and your loved ones in times of crisis.
Connect with your community and be aware of what’s happening around you. Keep up to date on social policies. Volunteering is a great way to socialize and learn new things that will help you in your personal development and social life. You’ll understand how and when to mobilize the best resources to support your present living and future.
Be aware of where your career path is taking you. If you can’t grow in your work environment or your career growth is hindered for any reason, you should look for other options and make plans early.
It’s good to have a stable job, but don’t rely completely on your company to take care of you. Your company may continue to like you or one day not like you.
Always have a plan A, B, C and D when you take action. Never put all your eggs in one basket, spread them out over many. If one of your baskets falls and your eggs break, you always have other baskets available to pick you back up.
5. Learn Basic First Aid and Fire Safety Skills
Life-saving skills are important to save your life and the lives of others. You can read some of the links here and also take classes to improve your skills.
How to do CPR? For example, how to do 30 chest compressions and do the rescue breaths.
How to do basic first aid? For example, how to tie a bandage and nurse a wound?
What to do when we are caught in the fire? For example, knowing the fire escape plan.
Reading grows our knowledge, but it will also be good to attend practical lessons to gain more hands-on experience when it comes to self-defense, first aid, and fire safety skills so that we can respond with calmness and confidence in times of crisis.
