5 Red Flags to look out for when choosing a Magento Solution or Service Provider

Better Check than be Sorry

Confusion is the very first thing that you’ll encounter when looking for a Magento Solution or Service Provider for your website. Firstly there is a pool of Magento Solution providers available on the internet, and everyone claims to be the best. A majority of these are just wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Many sellers, especially the new ones with little experience, have often stuck into trouble while opting for the wrong Magento Solution or Service Provider. To prevent any such things from happening again, here I am presenting a few red flags that one needs to cross-check before considering a Magento Service Provider:

  1. Bad Reviews on Seller Review Sites like Trustpilot
  2. Unavailability of Products or Name on the Magento Store
  3. Not Having Magento Certified Developers
  4. No personalized support or unavailability of proper product documentation
  5. Unreasonable Selling Commission

Now let's get to know each one of them in detail:

(1) Bad Reviews on Seller Review Sites like Trustpilot

No one can tell you better about the quality of Magento Service Providers other than people who have actually used them. Thanks to the advancement of neutral review platforms such as Trustpilot, G2, etc. where you can get unbiased reviews of genuine sellers.

These websites are the best possible source to check the validity of service providers. They only accept honest reviews from authentic product users, allowing users to rate the service/products and even write down their experience.

If you find a majority of negative reviews or any pointers that looks fishy, that’s your first red flag.

(2) Unavailability of Products or Name on the Magento Store

This is an essential and probably the biggest red flag to identify while choosing a Magento Solution or Service provider. Any decent company is supposed to have its products listed on the Magento Marketplace. If not all the products, then at least the flagship ones.

I am stressing this point because any product approved by and listed on Magento Marketplace passes through a series of code checks and parameters. So if the service provider is not listed on Magento Marketplace, it is possible why their product quality is not up to the mark.

(3) Not Having Magento Certified Developers

Next is developer quality which decides the value of money for any Magento Service Provider. Having a Magento Certified Developer is key to a stable and error free selling campaign. You must be thinking about how to judge the qualification of the developer. Well, there are many Magento qualifications that developers have to overcome to prove their worth.

You can check the developer on the website or can enquire directly from the provider. Also, you can scan through the LinkedIn profiles of their developer to understand how much they actually value. Magento Solution and Service Providers usually boast about their development skills and qualifications. If you don’t find any, that’s your red flag.

(4) No personalized support or unavailability of proper product documentation

24x7 Customer support is vital when it comes to choosing an ideal Magento Solution or Service Provider. Since your website is something that runs non stop which means anytime an error may occur on the live site, and if not resolved immediately, the sales will suffer directly.

That’s why one should always look for a company that provides 24x7 personalized customer support. If they do not, then ask if they can make some special arrangements on your behalf so that you can have someone to look for when needed the most.

Also, Another critical aspect is the detailed documentation of the product or service demonstrating how to use the features and functions. It is a must have thing while selecting a Magento Product or Service Provider because, without it, a lot of time and effort is wasted in demonstrating the working to different members of the organisation.

(5) Unreasonable Selling Commission

Now coming to our last red flag. Checking the ROI is the best way to judge whether your investment is worth it or not? And the easiest way to determine it is by checking the selling commission or the service fee.

Usually, for Magento Solutions such as Marketplace Integrations, the sales commission charged is around 3%. But based on your sales magnitude, some companies charge a lot, meaning the more you sell, the more commission they ask. You have to be very careful in choosing it because, in the long run, you are losing a lot amount. If your Magento Solution or Service provider charges more than 5% of sales commission, there’s your red flag!

Moreover, it is also advisable to go for a one-time plan that rids you of all the hassles of repeated payment.

Conclusion

So above are the 5 red flags you need to identify before choosing a Magento Solution or Service Provider. I Hope you liked it. Comment below with your views.
