We're not talking about quitting cigarettes, alcohol, or (insert your vice of choice). We're talking about quitting counterproductive habits that keep you from living the life you were meant to live.

Most of these bad habits are time wasters that will hold you back from getting ahead in life and achieving your goals.

In this post, we'll be covering 10 negative habits to quit if you want to have more success in all aspects of life.

Read on to find out what these bad habits are so you can start making adjustments today!

1. Procrastinating

Procrastination is linked to a lot of bad habits, including a strong desire for instant gratification, an unwillingness to be proactive, and negative attitudes.

Procrastinators waste an enormous amount of time doing things they do not want to do.

They find it increasingly difficult to shake off the "I'll do it tomorrow" mentality and often make excuses like "I don't have enough time" or "it can wait until later."

2. Being Too Lazy

You're probably thinking this is a no-brainer. But many people are too lazy to trade in their lazy ways for the more productive ones we're about to talk about.

The way you can avoid being too lazy is by setting yourself up for success by taking the time to figure out what needs to be done now and in the future, breaking large tasks into smaller ones, and making a plan then sticking with it.

3. Wasting Time on TV, Games and Social Media

If you check your Facebook account just before going to sleep, you're probably restless and easily bored.

Then there are the TV shows, movies, and video games that do nothing but fill up your free time with noise and distraction.

You only have so many hours of day to spend wisely; let's not waste one of them on stuff you don't want to do anyway.

4. Not Telling Your Boss What You Want

Sometimes we don't want our boss to know exactly what we want, because then they'd realize how little we know about business or how much work we can handle.

But when you don't tell your boss what you want, you never know if you'll be able to achieve it.

When you don't make it clear what your job requirements are, they might not know how to get it done.

5. Being Complacent

This bad habit is the opposite of being lazy. It's similar to "fear of failure" (see number 2), but in this case the fear is based on the fear of success or excellence.

We have a hard time believing that we can do something well when we haven't tried it before and we're intimidated at the thought of trying something new.

6. Not Trying New Things

Ever had a friend who was so talented at playing the piano that he or she could play anything you wanted?

Then one day you were playing along with the song, and it was great fun. But your friend got bored and moved on to something else.

The same thing happens in life: when we've mastered one skill, we stop learning new ones and get stuck in one place.

7. Being Fearful Of Failure

This bad habit is closely related to number 6, but with a twist, it has nothing to do with being lazy or complacent; instead, it's all tied up with being afraid of success.

The idea is that you're afraid of failing and so you don't do anything at all. When this happens, you give up on the things that are most important to you (like losing weight, starting a business, or balance in your life).

8. Not Taking Personal Responsibility

This is another fear of failure fear of success. Instead of stepping up to the plate and taking personal responsibility for what happens in your life and business, you find an excuse every time something goes wrong.

You're so overwhelmed by all the things that are supposed to go right that you've gotten in your own way.

9. Letting Others Affect Your Motivation

There are plenty of influences that can get in your way when you're trying to achieve something.

Maybe your spouse is always talking about how big the TV is, or you hate when your coworkers talk about how much they love their kids.

When you have these types of negative influences in your life, it's hard to stay motivated and find things you enjoy doing on a regular basis.

10. Not Taking Action

This is the bad habit that keeps all the other bad habits in place. If you can't figure out why you're not taking action, it's probably because you're allowing one of the other nine bad habits to rule your life.

Take some time to reflect on where you are now and where you'd like to be in the near future.

The challenge will be to take action by making a decision, slowly changing one thing at a time, and setting clearly defined goals for yourself (one for each day).

Finally

Taking action doesn't always mean taking massive steps, it's like putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that with each step you'll be moving closer to your goals.

It's all about believing in yourself and being able to set big goals for yourself. Once you start working on your goals, don't look back just keep going.

And when you get stuck or feel like giving up, remember why you're doing it.

When you visualize what life could be like if you worked hard enough to achieve your dreams, and use this vision as motivation to keep going.
