The life of Susan Wojcicki reveals—a poignant chronicle of triumphs and tragedy. Friday, her family unveiled the quiet end of a remarkable journey of life, and death. At 56, Wojcicki, once the indomitable force behind YouTube, lost her battle with non-small cell lung cancer—a cruel and unrelenting adversary she had been battling for two years.

Dennis Troper, her devoted husband, spoke with both heartache and admiration. “Susan was my partner in every sense, a brilliant mind and a loving mother. Her influence reached beyond our family into the far corners of the world,” he shared to social media. The grief is palpable, yet there is a undeniable, yet profound appreciation for the time they had together. As we all should be thankful for every single day that we are blessed be with the ones we love.

Wojcicki's life was intertwined with the rise of tech giants. The real OG's of the tech game. She offered her Menlo Park garage to Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998, quite a modest beginning for what would later become Google. Her vision led to YouTube's acquisition in 2006, a decision that shaped the digital landscape forever. Appointed CEO in 2014, she was heralded as one of Time’s 100 most influential people, a testament to her impact. Truly remarkable achievements.

But amid these monumental successes, personal tragedy would visit. In February, her 19-year-old son Marco Troper was found in his dorm room at the University of California, Berkeley. The deadly combination of drugs in his system would snuff out his short-lived life. Her son's death would cast a dark hue contrast to his mother’s professional achievements.

Wojcicki resigned from YouTube in early 2023, seeking peace amongst family and personal projects. Not long after, she would lose her battle with cancer. Her death should remind us to be thankful for what we have today. And to also teach us to be mindful of the fact that no one really knows when it's your time to go. More reason to take advantage of the time you have now. And use it wisely.

Google's current CEO, Sundar Pichai, remembered her memory, acknowledging her as a pivotal figure in helping to bring to life what we all now know as Google. “It’s hard to imagine Google without Susan. She was a beacon of leadership and a cherished friend,” he reflected.

In the end, SusanWojcicki’s story is one of short-lived extraordinary success accompanied by the pain and sorrow of deep personal loss. It serves as a reminder to be thankful for today. Because there is no promise in tomorrow.

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
