Why I prefer Vocal Media as a Writer
Nothing to hide here

Two years ago, I went all in on Vocal, made some decent money then my account got deleted by the powers that be.
Woah!
All my hard work down the drain, like what the heck?
I emailed them and eventually , my account was unlocked.
Phew!
It was a huge wake up call for me, but in that moment, I realized that I prefer Vocal to other similar platforms.
Why?
Transparency
Aside from lead gen, affiliate sales, and digital product sales, you earn from views; and they’re totally transparent about your earnings.
No gatekeeping.
You know exactly how much you’ll earn per thousand views from day one.
For the free account, you’re paid $3.80 per thousand views
For the paid package ($49 per year) you’re paid $6 per thousand views.
It’s static, it doesn’t change, and you know what in for from the get go.
Promote your products or newsletter without getting slammed for it
Some platforms hate it when writers promote their own products, affiliate products, or newsletters.
They want to humble you.
Force you into creative slave mode
They demonize self-promotion when they’re building and scaling their own business with your content creation efforts.
So, these days, I’m using platforms such as Vocal to promote my own products, affiliate products, and newsletters.
I’m scaling my own business, and I refuse to be a slave to these platforms.
I’d rather put more effort into publishing on my blog and newsletter, and Vocal is a great place to build my email list.
5 Sites to Share Your Articles to Make More Money from Your Writing
No Waiting for Monthly Payments
You don’t have to wait for monthly payments with Vocal. As a free member, once you hit $35, you can withdraw.
Paid members can withdraw at $20. It usually takes about five days to receive your money through Stripe.
Bonuses
You won’t get rich off bonuses, but they boost your confidence as a writer.
Vocal pays $5 for top stories, and there are bonuses for engagement as well. Top commenters earn between $5 and $20 bonuses in weekly bonus announcements.
I’ve received several top story bonuses and top commenter bonuses this year (2025).
You don’t have to pay to earn
Vocal allows all writer to earn without forcing them to pay monthly for the privilege. Vocal encourages writers to sign up for Vocal plus, which is the paid option but it’s not a requirement.
There is no such thing as a perfect platform, but transparency is crucial for me as a writer. I lose all faith in platforms that refuse to explain the pay rates to writers. It’s disturbing, and pretty shady if you ask me.
Right now, I’m doing a Gumroad digital product challenge on Medium and I’ll post on my other page with no paywall for the next 60 days. I’ll document the whole thing on Medium.
Once I’m done with this challenge, I’ll only post one long form article on this page per week, and I’ll focus on daily posts on my blog, and three posts a week on Vocal.
Change is good. Don’t shy away from change. I used to hate Vocal, but now it’s my favorite place to publish my articles.
Quick tips on making more money on Vocal Meda
Focus on Evergreen, Searchable Topics
Write content that people consistently search for—such as self-improvement, personal finance, wellness, or how-to guides. These articles stay relevant over time and keep earning views (and money) long after they're published.
2. Use Strong Headlines and Thumbnails
Your title and first image matter a lot. Craft clear, intriguing headlines and use eye-catching images (from royalty-free sites like Unsplash or Pexels). This increases your click-through rate, especially when you share on social media.
3. Promote Across Multiple Channels
Don’t just post and wait. Share your story in relevant online communities (like niche Facebook groups, Subreddits, or Medium cross-posts). Use Pinterest for lifestyle pieces or Twitter for opinion/editorial content. More exposure = more reads = more earnings.
Final thoughts
Vocal is a great place to build your reputation as a writer or blogger. Earn bonuses, get paid when you hit the threshold, and add income streams such as affiliate links, digital products, and online services.

Just a question, because you have more experience than I have. How often do you think is best to publish here on Vocal? Once a week? More?
