Why I'm Writing Fiction.

Fiction Is Also Meaningful Content.

I write a lot of fiction.

Writing fiction allows me the freedom to be creative without limits. I can use every day events or scenes, and turn them into imaginative stories written from what has been created in my imagination, through the places I have been, or the photographs I have seen.

There is a lot of value in fiction.

Some fiction can teach you new morals about life

  • Fiction allows you to create things based on ideas from what you have seen or heard
  • Even horror can have a moral behind it
  • Some fiction such as ghost stories, spiritual fiction, murder fiction, and science-fiction can help us to see things from new perspectives.
  • Fiction can enable both the reader and writer to escape from the real world, and into the imaginative world of the characters within the story, freeing our minds from our own complexities in life.

Some people are arguing that there is no value in fiction and that it's not meaningful content.

However, I hope you have read The Famous Five, which is a children's fiction by Enid Blyton, and the stories of Judy Blume.

These books have helped me to get through trauma, taught me to make friends again, and I have taken away little snippets of information that have enabled me to get through life.

Stories teach people and children about life. Some even show an understanding of the troubles that are experienced in real-life situations, and you can follow the characters on their journey to solve their problems.

Judy Blume's story Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret?

Many of these things are problems that teenagers find very difficult to deal with, such as puberty, religion, friendship, development, moving, and starting a new home.

All these issues are common issues children face as they make the change from childhood to adulthood.

This story got me through my childhood, and it is a firm favorite of mine today. A film was also developed from this story, and I highly recommend it.

It is one of the most heartfelt stories, fiction but based on the true realities of growing up that I have ever read.

Enid Blyton's Famous Five follows George, Julian, Dick, Anne, and Timothy the dog as they embark on adventures where they are faced with solving many problems.

They fall out, argue, and come back together as friends at the end of each adventure.

They learn how to get through the most difficult of times while retaining their friendship, and they embark on some very wild adventures.

The Famous Five is a series of books.

It is as much about building friendships as it is about adventure.

There are many adult fiction books that are also based on friendship, relationships and the struggles of life that are valuable too, such as:

I Thought You Said This Would Work by Ann Garvin.

This story is about conflict, friendship, cancer, romance, and self-discovery.

It is a story where people come together during traumatic times.

Every story I have featured here features meaningful content in the sense that most of these stories are about how people face real life together.

Fiction is valuable when it features meaningful content, even horror.

My own story Emma features many twists and turns. I am still writing the chapters, but as well as horror, there will be heartbreak, pain, misery, and grief. All these things are meaningful because each and every one of us experiences them in real life.

Another fiction I wrote is based on overcoming grief.

Writing fiction is just as much about exploring feelings as writing about real-life events.

It is valuable content because it can allow the writer to explore feelings, and enable the reader to relate to those feelings from different perspectives.

There are some writers out there who also write fiction for fun. Even that can be valuable content to some readers who might find it can teach them to see things in a different way.

We must remember that writers and authors put just as much work into their fictional pieces as someone creating content about real life, or useful content.

Fiction can also be useful content, and we must not allow it to become less important. Children are taught to write fiction at school.

I write fiction because it allows me to explore topics and feelings from a different viewpoint.

If there is no value in fiction, I hardly think that people would waste hours writing it.

Stories are so powerful. They are how we process are experiences, how we remember, and how we pass that on to others. Fables, gossip, news, spin, history... it's all stories. The most powerful ones, with the most potential to impact us individually, are the ones we tell ourselves about ourselves. 🤔
