Vocal Creator's Chronicle Pride Issue
Resurgance on an Important Issue
Vocal Creators Chronicle is a collaborative magazine run by and for creators. There are some regular regular columns, but anyone who wants to join in and submit an article is welcome.
We took a break recently, but now we're back in time for Pride Month!
My column is "News from Down Under", which mostly consists of me talking about whatever's going on lately with Australian Politics, which tends to get overlooked by the rest of the world. (We recently elected a new and mostly competent government, so I may actually have to stop complaining about the latest screw up and dig deeper. It'll make a nice change...)
The Chronicle usually starts with a word from the Founders/Editors: Lesley, James and Caroline, each with their own article on the theme of the month.
Scott Wade does "Music and Theatre", usually a review of a song, play or musical, and I admire his taste in debuting with "Wicked".
"Annals of History" is handled by Blessing Akpan, who explores the history of an item or topic. I always learn some new weird and wonderful fact from those articles.
Sarah St Erth writes a spiritual column about "Nature and Conciousness", on life, love, spirituality and social justice
"Seeking Brilliance" is written by Soleira Green, articles on how to improve or channel your creativity.
Rachel Jordan is the mind behind "What Your Brain Doesn't Tell You", a column about psychology and some of it's concepts.
Finally, there is Judey Kalchik with "Food and Lifestyle". Judey also founded the Vocal Cooks Collaborative, and always has a new recipe to share.
After the regular columns, there's a Creator Spotlight and some Recommended Reads, including some Fab 5 stories from Vocal Social Society.
So, What Is The Pride Issue About?
Well, anything you want, really, as long as it relates to LGBTQ+.
I wrote about my experience as two-thirds of the Invisible Trinity, as I'm Panromantic Asexual.
I can only speculate on what the other columnists will write about. Perhaps the long history of LGBTQ+ people in the performing arts, or the history of the Pride movement in general? The process and benefits of coming out and accepting yourself? Rainbow cakes? I'll just have to wait and find out when the next issue is published, I suppose.
For the Pride Issue, Vocal Creator's Chronicle is really looking for guest articles, particularly from the LGBTQ+ community and it's allies.
Perhaps you have a story about the first time you attended a Pride Parade, or how you felt when Same-Sex Marriage was first legalized. Maybe you remember when you came out, or had a friend or family member come out to you. Did you live through the AIDS crisis, either as a bystander or a participant? Are you a history nerd who keeps running into interesting Historical Figures who identified as Everyone Else's Problem (and also possibly LGBTQ+)?
Perhaps you have opinions on the current Pride movements; who they uplift and who is left out or marginalised, intentionally or not. Maybe you're written a poem with LGBTQ+ themes or or fiction piece. If you have a story to tell, we want to hear it.
If Pride isn't your thing, Vocal Creators Chronicle frequently does Special Issues on other themes, like Mental Health in October for R U OK, or Black History month in February. Clyde E Dawkins on Vocal Social Society is currently putting together a Juneteenth Collaboration, for anyone interested in that.
Outside of those, Vocal Creators Chronicle published an issue every second week, though we're looking at moving to a monthly format, and we always accept guest articles, if you don't want to commit to writing a regular column.
