Cardiovascular disease - Stem cells may promote the regeneration of heart muscle cells and new blood vessel growth, which can help treat heart failure, peripheral artery disease, and other heart conditions. Studies show that infusing stem cells from bone marrow or fat tissue into the heart muscle of heart attack patients led to significant improvements in heart function and survival rates.

Wound healing - Stem cells speed the healing of chronic and non-healing wounds, including diabetic ulcers. They stimulate new tissue growth and circulation which aids in repair and closure of wounds. My hospital recently began offering stem cell treatment for patients with long-term pressure ulcers, burns, and other wounds. We have been stunned by the progress patients have experienced, especially those whose wounds remained unhealed for many months or even years before the stem cell procedure.

Stem cell therapy may offer hope for diseases and conditions with limited treatment options. The list of potential applications continues to grow as we better understand stem cell biology and gain experience with new treatment protocols. Ongoing research aims to expand the number of approved stem cell therapies to improve more lives.
