Transitioning to digital business cards
Adapting to business networking after Covid-19
Transitioning to digital business cards during a pandemic
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic business meetings on a larger scale have been almost non-existent. Business trips, conferences and networking events have all been cancelled or moved to digital platforms such as Zoom. This comes with a number of challenges that forces us all to adapt and speed up our transition to web based business interactions.
For myself, the moment this realization kicked in was when I noticed a freshly printed stack of 1500 business cards on my desk. What was I going to do with these and when will be the next time I actually attend a conference or networking event? At this point, I don't think anybody can answer that question but I knew that we had to adapt as a company. Passing around business cards was going to be put on hold for the time being which meant we had to find a digital alternative.
Luckily for us, there are several forward thinking companies that offer digital solutions for business cards. These function in the same way as traditional business cards but they are completely digital and can be sent and added to the recipients contact list at the click of a button.
Why are digital business cards important?
After the Covid-19 lock down and a potential second wave coming in the fall, transitioning to digital business cards is not a really an option but a necessity. You need to be able to interact with partners and clients efficiently and digital cards allow you to do that. It is convenient and tells the world that you are ready for new challenges. The best part is that setting up a digital version of your card is super easy and very cheap. You can ask your graphic designer for a digital file such as an SVG or get the HTML code and have your card setup within 30 minutes.
What makes a good business card design?
Most if not all the same design principles apply here. A business card, whether printed or digital needs to be consistent with your brand and catch the attention of the recipient. Ideally you want the design to be memorable enough that whoever sees it takes a mental note. Having a professional and on-brand design will convey professionalism and establish a level of trust.
"Business cards are still the number one way of exchanging information between businesses. They influence how people perceive your company so be sure to make your first interactions count." Jason Whynot, VP at BusinessCards.co
