Thinking Of Writing A Book?

As a new author, I get asked a lot about writing a book.

How did I write a book? What made me start writing? Do I enjoy the process? The answer to all those questions is so simple. I love writing, and it is something I do every day and enjoy it thoroughly.

I started to write my first children's book Before I Was Born when I was pregnant with my second child. I wanted to share my pregnancy experience for other moms also to enjoy and a way to explain what's happening inside mommy's belly for new siblings. It ended up coming out very nicely with the help of some significant people. I enjoyed it so much that I have a second book coming out this summer. And I will hopefully have a series of books out in the next 5 -10 years.

After I had finished writing, and once my manuscript was ready, I was now searching for an illustrator. Having Facebook is great because they have groups specifically for Authors and Illustrators, so I became a member of this one group. I posted that I was searching for an illustrator, and It didn't take long for me to find the perfect one.

Luckily, we worked well together, we were able to bounce ideas off one another, and the project went smoothly. My first experience working with an illustrator went great.

Once the illustrations were complete, I put it all together and emailed it out to a bunch of different publishing companies. I included a cover letter, also called a query letter explaining what my book was about, who I was, and why they should choose to work with me.

Many emails later, I had a hybrid publisher reach out to me and say they were interested. I was extremely excited and so glad they wanted to work with me on my book.

With there being a few options out there when choosing a publishing company, it's best to decide which one works best for you. In essence, there is traditional publishing, hybrid publishing, or self-publishing.

With self-publishing, there are many available platforms to choose from, and you would have more control over your book than if you were to go with a traditional publisher. I have not had any experience with a traditional publisher, so I can't speak much on that. But for me, an excellent place to start was with a hybrid publisher. If you can find a traditional publisher to work with, that is fantastic too. Your best bet is to send your work to them and see what happens.

As I mentioned above, I ended up going with a hybrid publisher, and they guided me every step of the way. It is just like self-publishing but with a lot of guidance. They helped with editing, proofreading, marketing, and distribution. They were so kind and patient with me, answered every single question I had, and I am thrilled with how it turned out.

For those of you who are interested in writing a book, it is worth it. It's a fantastic experience, a lot to learn about, and if you're writing about something you love, then it can be fun and enjoyable. For me, I enjoy writing children's books and blogging. My children inspire me to write both. I also enjoy writing about motherhood, parenting, pregnancy, and everyday life experiences.

If publishing a book is something you hope to do someday, be sure to do some research, see what your options are, and put your best foot forward. Finding yourself a great illustrator, the right publisher, and you will be on your way to great things! It was beneficial to me when I started on my writing journey.
