Things Fall Apart

"Things Fall Apart." These three little but powerful words are an appropriate title for our current time in American History.

Things are falling apart with the way politics is going in this country. Politics is something I used to ignore over the years. Yet the introduction of Trump and other political mishaps have become the ultimate "divine comedy of errors." Yes, now the government has my undivided attention. Gone are the days that I would walk through our bleak American landscape, wondering what I would eat for dinner and if I had changed the diaper of my youngest child. Now I go to bed wondering if there will be a hostel takeover of our capital building before breakfast. It's a strange time to live in, for sure. But, no matter your political beliefs, you must admit that our beautiful America is falling apart at its very seams.

Many will say it always has been this way; we are now more plugged into the "matrix" and can see what was initially hidden. I agree to a certain extent. However, the flip side is now that we can broadcast everything for all to see, we have many enthusiastic thespians (AKA everyday people)willing to act out for the cameras. For instance, we have a set of people, especially faux politicians such as Donald Trump, ready to put on a best-in-show performance for the world. You have to admit that his gatherings were for him and his ego. It felt staged how he spoke like he was holding court or making fun of people from his pulpit. He had so many in awe and the palm of his sweaty hand. His followers were, and are in love with, an image he crafted just for them. Then when he left office kicking and screaming literally, he went behind a mountain of debt, over $519 million fighting election fraud false hoods according to the Washington Post*. And how can we forget the fumbled capital-building takeover? Some of you disagree that he tried to take the capital and our senators and House of Representatives hostage. Therefore let's take a walk down memory lane and look at the now-famous words of his most fervent supporter, Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani said, among other things, "Let's have trial by combat." What could that mean? I know what that means. Trump and his team had whipped the support now infamous rioters into such a frenzy that a destructive and deadly march was bound to happen and did. However, we still have people trying to take apart this statement and say that is not what he meant. I will leave this right here for you to ponder over later.

We also have a pandemic happening. Most of us are not in denial as much as we are fighting to keep America from dismantling before the world. How embarrassing that we being a super-power, can't keep our senate and congress from battling it out like a "WWE" match. Or, keep our president from saying uneducated science fluff about COVID-19." No, Mister President, you can not use lasers from outer space to cure COVID-19." He never said that, but he tried to tell the American people that it was no biggie and that it would go away just like that. Well, now we all know it will not disappear like that.

I had forgotten how the year 2021 effected me. It is always interesting to go back and look at pieces of your writing even if they are not that great. They still say alot about the world we are living in and how much our world fails us or hopefully in some cases makes us proud. But, Unfortunately, this snapshot of history is not a proud moment for us.
