The Sun Card

Witchy Wednesdays

By Lane BurnsPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

In my experience with tarot, the sun card is the ultimate yes card. Of course it means a lot more than just it’s positive qualities. But it is a card that I get excited about when I see it in a reading. It just radiates this beautiful energy. It is a card of great happiness, success and abundance. Even in it’s reverse position, it still radiates this glow, it just reminds you that your blocking it and to let go.

The sun after all is pretty vital to life, so it’s not hard to see why it’s filled with huge positive associations. And historically speaking, the sun has held huge significance within culture and symbolism. It’s a way to measure time, it controls how we plant and harvest things, when we chose to do activity, and even life itself. If the sun were to disappear tomorrow, we’d be in for a lot of trouble. Which makes it a pretty big deal in tarot readings as well.

When we have the sun coming up, it can signify harmonious connections with spirit, as well as a deep relation with your own ego and identity. The sun doesn’t just pop in for nothing. Instead it comes in times of change and new realities. It’s a shifting energy and it’s a powerful one. To let the sun in and follow the path that brough you to it, your are welcoming in a huge change from where you use to be. And as anything it can be a change in many areas, which is why sometimes follow up questions or cards are necessary. Often times, the sun is deeply connected in readings to do with love, money, and identity.

When the sun comes in a love reading, it can often be scary. Because this kind of energy in the form of love is all encompassing. It is bright, bold and intense. It is the love that people write poetry about and often it follows those who fall deeply and quickly in love. Which if you are anything like me, this can be scary. Sun energies can often burn and if you aren’t ready for it, it can hurt. If the sun represents a person, then it is often someone who can be a great match for you. I hesitate to say soul mate, as I do believe we are capable of having more than one. Similar to tarot, love is not clear cut. It depends on who someone is and what they believe in.

When the sun presents itself in relation to money, it shows that success is on the way. The work that has been happening is paying off. Money is ready to flow in if you accept it, and typically it is not a small amount. Unlike pentacles, when you get the sun as a sign of success. It is often a sudden opportunity or abundance coming through. It is separate from the suit of pentacles as it exists in the cycle of the major arcana. Different cycles provide different outcomes, even if you do not full cycle through the path or wheel each time. Making the sun often unexpected and magical.

And of course, when the sun is coming in as a sign of your ego and self. It encourages confidence to flood up. And it tends to bring in new energy. It can be rewarding to your higher self and shed some light (pun intended). Sun energy exists naturally in some more than others. Leos in particular pair well with the sun, and when this card appears in their reading it radiates power and is often the clear cut sign to continue in the direction they are going.

In addition to the zodiac signs, tarot cards also pair up with deity connects as well. Depending on who you work with, the sun can represent any of the sun deities as well as any family members born in the month of Leo, or have that bright energy for you.

So when the sun enters the life, be ready to let it give you so much.
