The Reason Why I Capture Everything on Film (And Why You Should Be Doing It To)
an online diary entry to help my thoughts wander about
Nobody ever knows what'll happen in our lives. Nobody. Of course, for some, there are psychic mediums who certain people may believe can predict what'll happen... But life is and has always been unpredictable for most, if not all people. Nobody has an idea about who could enter into their life... Or why they were sent to us in the first place. Lessons are made every single day, and we just have to let it flow in and out- like a tide. We don't even have a clue about what people in our lives are meant to be with us forever, or who'll just up and go... without any possible warning. Sometimes, we have to experience things that'll hurt in the moment but teach us something valuable in the long run. Capturing every bit of those precious memories you've made in life, whether it's short or long, through either video capture or a series of pictures, can help your memory of that one specific day... or person... or even animals... never fade.
The idea of capturing everything that I have ever experienced in life on film, or even just through photos, came to me with the help of a love I've had since the end of my high school career of both photography and videography (a combination of both, really). But, mostly, this new found love I've had towards making sure every second of my life gets captured in some way has developed in some sort of way due to the childhood trauma I've suffered in the past. Ever since I was a small child, I've watch memories come and go without an ounce of proof that memory existed- whether it was the passing of a childhood pet, or people I've loved close to me suddenly disappearing out of my life without a word.
As I grew older, I slowly realized just how much I have lacked the visual memories of those who made quite the impact on my short life. Of course, I own a couple pictures here and there... but it never felt like I had enough. Ever.
Although, some traumas from old memories have never really faded from my mental memory (no matter how much I beg and plead for them to fade away as quickly as they came into my core memory), all memories will eventually begin to fade to blackness after a certain amount of time passed by.
The day I forgot the sound of my father's voice felt like Hell on Earth - I couldn't dare think about the day I'd forget the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, or how he smelled on a good day.
So, due to the idea that I never, ever wanted to see the memories of those of my past that I'll never see or hear again to fade away completely, I made a pact.
I was going to capture everything... and everyone... that I have ever encountered with in my life.
It's sort of like my own little way of keeping a little physical diary for my memories. That way I'd never have to worry about what'll fade away into the back of my mind, or what would disappear into the abyss and never to be seen or heard of again.
I've done the honors of keeping track of my creations both in the physical world and online. As an aspiring content creator, I find it to be quite easy to keep an online record of those captured memories via both photos taken or videos created.
For me, I've used the social media apps of TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to help capture these memories. | Instagram: @stufflestream | TikTok: @stufflestream | YouTube: 'Lissa's Journey
Of course, for some of my old memories... keeping these sorts of memories do occasionally feel as if capturing them may have been a mistake. Much like how some may feel towards some of your memories that you look back on. From old friendships that fell apart, to random online diary tea spillage involving the discussing topics you've had to suffer yourself through in order to get to where you are today - but in the long run, I've never once regretted capturing them.
Keeping a presence of what you've been through is a quick and easy way to making sure you'll never repeat the same mistakes you've had the unfortunate mishap to go through a first time.

'Lissa speaking: Hello. This was just a random "online diary entry" I had buried deep in my drafts for almost two years now that I have never allowed to see the light of day and, figuring I am trying to break back out of my writing shell, I decided to post it here once and for all. Thank you for taking the time to read through my stories and if you enjoyed it, don't be shy - I have more over on my profile (all different types from fictional stories to poems to the occasional article).
