Scribble
I’m passionate about books; I love to read them, and – one day soon – I would love to write them. I read like a ravished squirrel foraging food in an endless forest. My challenge is to be more discerning when endless material is available: books, websites, social media, news feeds, headlines. Infinite choices lead to information bloat – stories of good things, bad things, all things: success-related, fear-related, sensational, news-worthy, trashy, gossipy, and the like. I’d like to change that – to add, not subtract from the literary world.

For better or worse
I have failed more often than I have succeeded. In 1983, I was discharged from the military due to an injury and disability, I wasn't even twenty-three. In 1989, I graduated from college with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I thought I was all set, but I wasn't. I felt proud of my degree because I only had a g.e.d. I had studied hard and had decent grades. I was in for a shock when I started going for interviews. No one would hire me, they all said the same thing, "it's nice you have your education, but where is your experience?" At this time, the federal and state government put a hiring freeze into place, thus making employment for recent graduates difficult. I had been working in the airline industry and wanted to leave it, but knew I couldn't until I had a better job. I would get interviews but no offers. Finally, I stopped looking for a job in my desired field.

Rebellious Weed Scavenging
From all the things I have to do, this is the last one on my list. It is not even on my list, officially I mean because it is not a thing I HAVE to do. I mean yes, I do, have to do It, because it is creative and time consuming and I will probably fail, and curse at myself for even trying, and I could get the same end product at IKEA for 20 bucks, so of course, I have to do it. If it will get money on my bank account to pay this 115 bucks gas bill due in 3 weeks, heck no. If it will align with my line of work or fit in a niche I could even try to monetize in some ways. Still no.

It All Began With a Dozen Pairs of Scissors.
I could begin by listing my love of tangible mediums: the way my favorite satin fabric falls in billowy ribbons as I cut it into shape; the soft, satisfying feeling of cutting through heavy paper with sharp scissors; the freshly trimmed ends of a haircut that makes my hair feel soft and healthy and empowers me to truly feel like myself.

Day 7
I had so many hopes for this challenge, so many plans. I thought, if I can stick to this challenge, and write 1000 words a day for two weeks, I am going to keep that momentum going. Make it the whole summer. Make it just my regular writing schedule. I’ve been trying to develop better writing habits anyways, and this seemed like a killer kick off to seeing the kind of progress I wanted.
