Perfect!
Maybe it’s just me, or possibly the fact that I enjoy writing, so by extension, I appreciate language in general, that I’m finding some of today’s catch phrases annoying. Yes, it’s true, every generation has developed its own pet phrases that seem to have unique meanings just for them. In the nineteen fifties, the terms Daddy’o and Beatnik were used quite often. So were Greasers and Socs or Kool Kids.

The Day Eddie Died
Let me take you back. So it’s Friday night, November 10th 2005 and I’m staying with my godmother Rosa Newkirk after having just moved to Greensboro here in North Carolina. She’s the biggest wrestling fan ever and so am I, and we’re watching WWE’s Friday Night Smackdown. At this time we were currently in the middle of the Raw vs Smackdown Survivor Series storyline and we are fully locked in. Right before the final segment of the show one of our top favorite wrestlers takes the ring, Eddie Guerrero aka Latino Heat.

The Future of Same-Sex Marriage Rights in the U.S. Hangs in the Balance
Nearly ten years have passed since the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges made same-sex marriage legal all over the country. Now, the issue that seemed to be over is back in the news and could be brought back before the Court. Marriage equality is once more at the center of America's cultural and constitutional crossroads thanks to a new legal challenge. A former county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples on religious grounds is the subject of the ensuing case. Her legal team is now arguing that the Obergefell decision violated her religious freedom, not only to justify her actions but also to get the Supreme Court to reconsider its 2015 decision. For millions of LGBTQ+ Americans, this moment feels like déjà vu. The struggle for marriage equality was long, arduous, and powerful on a symbolic level. “I Can’t Wait to See How You Act Out”
“The villain counts my tears as coins and measures my fear like a scale. But I am forged in fire, tempered in truth. For every shadow he casts, I walk taller in the light. He writes the script of chaos, yet I am the author of my dawn. Let the world watch: the hero rises not from ease, but from the cruelty that sought to break her.”
