Fue una fría mañana de febrero de 2023 cuando dejamos a nuestras 23 gallinas y 1 gallo fuera del gallinero por segundo día consecutivo, a pesar de la lluvia y el clima nublado. Mientras salíamos para una prueba del equipo infantil de béisbol de USA, no podía sacudirme el pensamiento del siempre acechante halcón, pero lo descarté rápidamente. El lunes por la mañana, vi plumas dispersas en el césped del patio trasero y hacia la parte trasera de la propiedad donde se encontraban el gallinero, el corral de caballos y los troncos de madera. Era claro que el halcón había atacado de nuevo, y me sentí culpable por confiar en la esperanza y el clima para proteger a nuestras gallinas, después de todo la naturaleza nunca descansa. Me pillaron desprevenido una vez más.
