I wanted to be a Certified Nurse Midwife. That's an R.N., (at least), who then goes on to midwifery school, and catches babies. I had attended a handful of home births as a doula. It was my passion!

Hello and Welcome to Unemploymentville
The thought is traumatizing. Especially to an individual who has worked for more than 20 years without interruption. What about those individuals who have been in unemploymentville for more than 6 months? Working is a way life. We work to provide food, shelter, and stability. So, now what are you going do? Do you just erase 20 years of hard work to start at the bottom? Are you going to give up looking for way out of unemploymentville? Or, are you going to use your resources to floor the gas pedal right through unemploymentville? It’s possible that you don’t even know what your next steps are because you are either a total wreck or you have given up on finding a way out of unemploymentville. Some of us are lucky that we don’t have to stay in unemploymentville for very long. For the rest of us, we are out of gas and it may take us some time to get out of unemploymentville and into employmentville. But for now, you are out of gas. Put your car in park, and let’s see if we can find some gas and any other resources to help you out of unemploymentville.

How [Work] Guilt Kills You
There's a whole suite of psychologists who primarily work in the area of clinical patient care relating to shame and guilt. Academics write monstrous theses on the topic of guilt. Entire shelves in bookstore's self-help sections read titles like Overcoming Inner Shame or Guilt be Gone! (This actually exists and wasn't written by the Sham-Wow guy, Google it.) But what's behind this monumental surfacing of guilt in ourselves and our daily lives? I'll tell you why, because in this modern society we're conditioned to be so damn concerned with cramming as much productivity into every minute of every day and nothing else, to hell with the rest. Then, when we aren't mentally, emotionally, or physically able to live up to this standard, purely because we're not naturally geared for it, then intense feelings of guilt stirs inside us. Which will continue to manifest unhealthily in all sorts of ways, until we knuckle down and clear out all our emotional junk and re-program our minds to function in a way that is more aligned with our natural states of being.

Stop It!
Last year about this time I got all caught up in watching Gary Vee, Simon Sinek, and every Ted Talk I could find about self-improvement. I went "hustle" mode on creating content, a Youtube channel, and jumping on every new app promising community and followers. Per Gary Vee's advice, I went all in on Snapchat and Anchor, shunning work and family responsibilities so I could record every ridiculous thought and action in an otherwise mundane existence.

My Friend the Police Officer
I have known this man decently for at least three years. We went to the same high school and served in the Manual Academy JROTC program. As I've grown to know him, he's been more and more himself. In the past... well, for a while he was in the police academy. Despite being one of the star football players, he was really down to earth in high school. He dealt with all kinds of drama from people having a concussion every other week to struggling with Trigonometry. By his senior year, he was in the top three, "god powers," as we cadets called them, of the JROTC Battalion. He was the Cadet Sergeant Major, CSM for short. He led the weekly Physical Training, amongst other things. After he graduated, he suffered a terrible loss, that no one really knew how to help with. Somewhere in the midst of the homework and football games, he decided that he wanted to be a Police Officer.

Ripped From The Bylines
Once upon a time, not so long ago, I wanted to be a journalist. The reasons for the desire were numerous, including it was the one writing job that my parents wouldn't complain that I couldn't make money doing it and I would still be writing. Best of all, I would be making a difference in the world. Exposing bad guys would make the world a better place for my nieces and nephews. It was ideal, almost utopian. Then Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President and the world went upside down.

Online College
We've all seen those commercials about online college. They encourage us to get our degree online. But is it worth it? Up to now, I am not so sure it is worth it. If you are a stay-at-home mom, your options are limited if you have not worked in several years. Even if you have a degree that you got online, you're going to hear these phrases when you apply for jobs, even jobs that your so-called degree qualify you for: "You don't have enough work experience;" "You have no work history;" "You don't have the experience we're looking for."

Social Entrepreneurs
There is this huge buzz about social entrepreneurs. Apparently, the guy that came up with the term didn't produce a clear definition. I was originally told it was an entrepreneur that doesn't have a storefront, doesn't necessarily sell a product or a traditional service, and only uses social medias to get business. That makes perfect sense to me. But after some research on the subject, I found it to mean something much much more.
