Strange Fruits Make Money

Here’s how

Most people chase the obvious.

They build businesses around trending topics, mainstream products, and what they think will go viral. I did the opposite. I went weird — and I made over $200,000 doing it.

That’s right. One strange fruit.

Not apples. Not bananas.

Not even something “superfood famous” like goji berries or acai.

I’m talking about a fruit that barely anyone was searching for — until I started talking about it.

And no, I didn’t farm it, juice it, or open a fruit stand.

I wrote about it.

I created digital products, blog posts, and faceless content around this one fruit — and it blew up in the most unexpected way.

Let me break it down:

Obscurity = Opportunity

Everyone is focused on saturated markets. They’re trying to make money selling the same things in the same way.

But I’ve learned something powerful:

The weirder the niche, the less competition — and the more room for dominance.

When I stumbled on this strange fruit (which I’ll keep unnamed for now, because the real secret is how I approached it), I noticed a small but passionate community already forming around it. Think: Reddit threads, tiny YouTube videos, blog posts that hadn’t been updated in years.

And yet, the search volume was rising.

So I dove in.

I Created a Whole Micro-Ecosystem Around One Fruit

I didn’t overthink it.

I started with one Medium article about the fruit’s benefits. Then I created an e-book.

I bundled up recipes, wellness hacks, skin remedies, and cultural background into a simple digital product — priced it at $17, and uploaded it to Payhip.

And here’s where it gets good:

I made a faceless YouTube channel dedicated to this fruit and others like it.

Voiceover videos. Stock footage. Zero editing stress.

Just educational, curiosity-driven content that led people straight to my Payhip store.

The result?

$200K in digital product sales.

All from one weird little fruit that most people ignored.

Why This Works (And How You Can Do It Too)

There’s a name for this kind of strategy — it’s called Topical Authority.

And when you build it around something specific and under-the-radar, it compounds quickly.

Here’s my 4-step “Strange Fruit Framework”:

Find Your Weird Niche

Look for the outliers — lesser-known fruits, herbs, remedies, or products that have growing interest but low competition. Use tools like Google Trends, Answer the Public, and Reddit to gauge interest.

Immerse and Research

Spend a week going deep. What are people saying about it? What questions do they have? What problems does it solve?

Create 33 Pieces of Content

Use the 33 Immersion Method. Write 33 blog posts, Medium articles, or YouTube scripts all around this single topic. Become the “go-to” source.

Build and Sell a Digital Product

Create a guide, PDF, or recipe book based on your knowledge. Use platforms like Payhip or Gumroad. Promote it through your content — not with hard selling, but with value.

Final Thoughts: Weird Wins

The internet rewards the brave — and the niche.

You don’t need a million followers. You don’t need a warehouse full of stock.

You just need to pay attention to what everyone else is ignoring.

Strange fruits make money.

So do strange ideas.

The trick is to find something just outside of the mainstream — and then flood the internet with useful, curiosity-driven content around it.

Want to stop competing in saturated markets?

Go weird. Go deep. Go digital.
