Poppy's Preferences shares pieces published in the Poets community that I personally really enjoyed, in the hopes of these pieces gaining the exposure they deserve, as well as the readers getting to enjoy some more great poems. Usually, the ones I include don't have many reads or comments.

Smell the Sun by Brenton F
I absolutely adore poems about Greek mythology and have a special soft spot for the myth of Icarus. However, I was completely drawn in before I even realised this was the theme of the poem. This poem begun in a perfectly captivating way and ended with an equally impactful line.
i wanted to smell the sun
from the corners of my eyes
This Haunting by Kelsey Syble
I love Kelsey's writing style so it was hard to pick just one of her poems to share. Definitely check out her others. I chose this one, however, for its gorgeous word choices and incredible juxtaposition. It's a perfect balance of sharing enough to evoke emotion in the reader, while being vague enough to leave them wondering and curious.
Reimagining malicious apathy
into heartfelt friendship,
and forced pleasantries
into sincere compassion.
Turn Away by Kayleigh Fraser
Kayleigh is not only super supportive and encouraging, she's also an incredibly talented poet. After admiring many of her poems I ended up deciding on this piece to share because of its uniqueness and structure. The repetition makes it so captivating and it perfectly encompasses the feeling of beginning to feel something for someone when you desperately don't want to because of past hurt; a feeling we can probably all relate to. I adored every stanza and loved the ending.
turn away bright eyes
but please don’t go too far
for although I can’t look into them
I also cannot part
I Want You to Know by Paul Stewart
This one already has quite a few likes/ comments, which is no surprise considering Paul's talent as well as his commendable support for other writers. However, I think everybody needs to read this poem. It's so inspiring and meaningful that when I was reading it I felt like it was written just for me, as I'm sure many others did too. I read it a time I needed to read something exactly like that and literally had to bookmark it to reread it when I was feeling that way again. If any peom can bring tears to your eyes, it's this one. Thank you Paul.
I want You to know
Yes, You
each day
You get through it all
and see another sunrise
afternoon or evening
there are others
just like You
suffering in silence
screaming at a world
that just
doesn't want to listen

One of Mine
This is one of my older ones but I still enjoy reading it, so hopefully you do too. It's a prose style romance poem.
He is all contradiction and change and pushing and pulling and pushing again. He is begging you to love him and apologising that he can’t do the same for you. You are pleading with him to let you heal him and promising him it’s okay if he can’t treat your wounds in the same way (because you both know he can’t).
