Know your food(s)

(Disclaimer: I touched upon a lot of subjects but specified about less. I am sorry for that. Perhaps in the future I'l write about the ones I didn't write about, and say what each means.)

Food can heal your body and mind, and is a strong pillar of health together with sleep and physical activity. Hippocrates said, "let thy food be thy medicine". And he was right. There are miracle stories of people who healed from progressive cancer or diabetes through food. As a fun activity (at least for me), I took post-it notes and divided it for topics: superfoods, which can actually be as simple as garlic, and topics like vegtables and their nutritional value, mushrooms like reishi with healing propreties or mushrooms for cooking like portobello, micro and macro nutrients, hormones, exotic superfoods, green leaves, micro minerals, macro mineral. Maybe I've omitted a few topics from what I wrote, hope it's ok, though.

I want to say something important - in the documentary about fatty foods, "Fat Fiction", they said that Carbohydrates are not crucial and even dangerous. I was angry when I heard that, because as much as it is true for simple carbs, it is NOT true for complex carbohydrates. Those are satieting, beneficial and crucial for your health. Of course you don't need to eat 12 slices of bread a day, even if it's whole wheat bread. But think about it: is eating 12 pieces of cucumbers a day, or any kind of fruit - is THAT good for you? Of course it isn't. Same goes for carbohydrates, as well.

In documentaries, they say that eating a lot of meat is cancerous, And that plant based foods are good for you. But, and that's a huge but - every human is different. So, eating habits and what actually fits you, varies. Meat contains iron and B12, which are vital nutrients. Iron can be obtained from plant sources as well, but it is more hard work to consolidate an iron-rich diet from plant food, as it is more scarce. B-12 is even more scarce in plant based foods.

Some people need to eat meat, as it is more suitable for them. It can even be something as eating meat once or twice a week, if you care about animals and love eating plant based foods, yet have strong cravings for meat if you don't eat it for a long period of time. To each their own. Ketogenic diet, carnivore diet, your own kind of diet, etc. - choose one that fits you. Don't decide upon a diet that does not do you good just because a friend or a mentor have chosen it. That's dangerous. And unhealthy foods? You don't have to eliminate it altogether. But do limit them.

Healthy food is seen as unlikeable sometimes, but everyone can find heathy foods that they like. And you can vary your palate's taste if you'll keep on eating healthy foods that you don't like eating. Also, drinking lots of water - 2 1.5 liters of water bottles for example. I know a lot of us don't have the time to drink so much water, and that ammount of water can be too much for some. But drinking lots of water is crucial to our health.

Water can taste like nothing sometimes, but if you'll add cucumbers, lemon, or anything you like that enhances and betters the water tastes - that can be a really cool way to drink water, keep your mind sharp, and feel better altogether.

The topic of nutrition is so wide and controversial. Some say that eating eggs is dangerous. Some say that eating a carnivore diet is good for everyone, and try to spread the word. Make everyone eat this way, like they're some kind of health missionaires. Same goes for other diets. But eating healthily is not a dogma, it's a lifestyle. Not a diet with rigid rules. If you choose a certain diet, don't go by strict rules. Make it yours.
