My Life Becoming A Music Producer Pt.1
My childhood of music with my family and friends
For most of my life, I have had such a big passion for many styles of music. I would always listen to music and sing from the top of my lungs around the house until my family told me to quiet down. When I was younger, I wanted to learn how to play guitar so my cousin taught me for a little while. I haven't picked up a guitar for a number of years so god knows how I sound now.
For a lot of my childhood, My dad and I went on several car journeys and we always used to listen to many different CD's. We would always sing along together and the travel used to fly by because we were having so much fun together. I remember fondly of one of these journeys when my Dad put on a clubmix CD that his workmate burned for him in 2002. It was a full mixtape of club music from the late 90s to early 2000's. I had never listened to this style of music before but it gave me a completely new passion. I fell in love with this CD and I even still listen to it nearly 18 years on from that first glimpse into the world of Trance and House music. Two tracks on that CD stood out to me the most: 'Darude - Feel The Beat' & 'Push - Strange World'. Strange World is still one of my favourite tracks to date because of the beauty and nostalgia it gives.
Fast forward a few years and I continue to listen to Trance and House. My Dad and I start listening to more and more Electronic Music together. He shown my brother and I all of these different tracks from his youth and we would always listen as a family and fall more and more in love with it. Of course I was still listening to radio pop music but none of it ever made me feel as nice as Trance did.
For my early teen years, my knowledge on music was very small. I only stuck to one lane when it comes to genres/styles. I became quite judgemental on other music if it wasn't club music. Day in, day out, I would always be playing House music. My brother was the same so we would always be on the YouTube channel, 'Proximity'. Our family stopped being as close as we used to be so the best connection we all had together was through the music we played. I never really spoke to my brother unless it was about a new released track we both enjoyed or about concerts we would like to go to.
When I was 12 years old, I had to move away from my hometown and my brother had to stay as he needed to finish exams. It felt like a completely new start in life for me. New people, new environment. I was unsure how I would fit in. By around this time in my life, I spent many hours on YouTube and luckily everyone else did too. I was able to make friends through YouTube and Sports. One friend I made while living there introduced me to so many new things. New games, new YouTube channels and new music genres. At this age was around the same time when Dubstep started to become more popular. This became my new found love. I started to slowly stop listening to House and moved onto Dubstep. This person became my best friend and pretty much like a brother to me. We would always be listening to music together and playing games. We both decided that we wanted to start our own YouTube channels, so that's what we did. We made gaming videos and vlogs and we were loving life while doing it. We both learned video editing, film making and audio editing. My friend and I made every decision together throughout the time we knew each other so the decision to start making music together was a huge one and I didn't realise how big of an impact it would be to my life 10 years on.
This would be the start of a career venture that could change my life forever.
