My Hero's

My husband, my boss

By Bridget HenkePublished 4 years ago 3 min read

To whom it may concern:

I have not always known what I wanted to do with my life and my ideas changed many times. I still don't know exactly what I want to do but I do know this, I need you.

I have accomplished many things in my life none of which I ever thought could be possible for me, or maybe I did but I didn't believe it could be true. I have always worked hard and tried to achieve any goals I set for myself. As you know that has not always been easy as I have faced many struggles and obstacles in my life.

I have met many people on this journey of life and all of them have impacted me in one way or another whether it be positive or negative. My experiences and the people I have met have helped to shaped me into the person that I am today. There are two people in particular who I wish to thank today for having the biggest impact and thus making these two special people my heroes’.

First to my husband I want to say thank you for everything you do. You have been my cheerleader, my confidant, and my best friend. You lift me up when I am down and you’re are always by my side through thick and thin. Even before we were married you were my friend.

For all the little things you did for me that may not have been extra special or "super" by super hero standards, know that it all meant the world to me. Of all the things people in my life have done for me what you did was the most impactful thing in my life. You saw something in me that no one ever had before or at least not that anyone ever had the courage to say out loud. I have a flaw that runs deep and impacted my entire life until you came along. You gave me the courage to seek the help I needed and that literally changed my life.

The fact that you were able to see a diagnosis in me that no one else ever had and not only stick by my side but encouraged me to seek help and never making me feel bad or different is what makes you super to me. I could never be as successful as I am now if you had not pushed me to get help and get medication. I am not ashamed of my mental health because of you and I have strength and courage to talk openly about it as long as you are by my side. Without you, I may never have been able to achieve half of what I have achieved so far and my life would not be the same. You were always my shoulder to cry on and my pillar when I needed strength. Thank you for teaching me to be strong and ask for help and for supporting me and loving me even when I was at my lowest. You showed me strength in ways I didn’t know existed.

I have another person who has been my inspiration on the job and that is my boss. Some bosses lead by telling you what to do and “bossing” you around but not my boss. She is an amazing woman who leads by example and does not put undue pressure on her employees. She demonstrates what a good leader looks like and how a woman can get to the top. She has faced struggles head on and achieved her goals every time she sets them for herself.

Thank you for giving me an amazing example to look up to and strive to become. You have shared so much wisdom and advice with me that no man in your position would have or could have done. You trained me to follow in your shoes, and they are very big shoes to follow. You have encouraged me and helped me to develop and fine tune my skills. I appreciate all the times you have set aside time to meet with me one on not to criticize and critic but to encourage me and help me see where my opportunities are. Having you on my side makes me feel ready to move on to the next step and know that I can achieve it.

My husband and my boss, you are my hero’s. Not all heroes wear capes or a blue onesie, they don’t have any powers, but they have done things for me personally that no masked crusader ever could have done. So once again I say thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you and being on my side.
