Writing online is changed. Nowadays, you can write on different platforms and make a liveable income. Besides other ways to make money, writing on Medium and having your blog could be the best possible combo. Having your blog on Ghost could help you in many ways in search engine optimization to monetizations.

I am a writer on both platforms; Medium.com is one of the best sites for writing while having your newsletter or blog on Ghost(Pro) could help you create your own blog, having the built-in SEO and ability to let people subscribe to your blog through email and introducing your own Paywall using Stripe one-click solution.

Writing & Branding On Medium:

Writing on Medium is quite rewarding. You can make money on Medium in two ways; Through the Medium Partner Program and through affiliate marketing. The Medium editor is one of the best. It gives you a seamless writing experience. Medium is one of the best platforms where the former president of the United states 'Barak Obama' writes on Medium as well as the present president of the US releases a press statement on Medium.

There are some writers on Medium making over $10,000 a month just writing on Medium. I have made over $3k writing on Medium. For branding, Medium is released more features like adding a custom domain with your publication as well as your profile. In my opinion, having a custom domain is a great feature that makes Medium a very competitive writing platform.

Writing on any platform has some pros and cons. There is a risk associated with every writing platform or almost anything you do in life. On YouTube, they might suspend your account but still, there are YouTubers making Millions of dollars every month. This means that if you follow rules, you will always be welcome on almost every platform.

Medium has two programs; Medium membership (cost $5/month) letting you read unlimited articles on Medium. The Medium Partner Program could help you make money writing. You make money when someone read your Metered Paywall story who is a Medium member. Some portion of the $5 pie goes to the writers and some portion is going to Medium(Company)

Writing and creating a blog on Ghost.org with great CMS:

Writing and creating a blog on Ghost is a rewarding experience for me. I have learned that WordPress is one of the bad Content Management systems (CMS) because of many reasons; one big and contributing reason is it has plug-ins that could increase the load on your website which is bad for the SEO. Now, Ghost which is fewer Plug-ins could help you in SEO with minimalist themes and everything in place to just turn on/off the features you want to add.

If you are interested to build a fully-functional site with an alternative like Medium, having a blog on Ghost could have the same experience. You can also introduce your own Paywall using Ghost modern technology and use Stripe which is in-built in Ghost CMS, boom! you have a business now.

A comparison between Medium Vs Ghost:

Following are some of the differences between Medium Versus Ghost.

  1. Medium is free. It is absolutely free to blog and make money. If you wish to read on Medium, you have to pay $5/month, a portion of that earning goes to the writers you read articles. Ghost(Pro) is expensive. It could cost you $348/Year but if you thinking long-term it could be more affordable and profitable.
  2. On Medium and Ghost, you can add a custom domain. This feature of the custom domain wasn't available on Medium in 2020 but they introduced it now. If you are searching for a place to host your content and create a blog, Ghost could be a more interesting place.
  3. Medium is a social media platform for writers. You are a very new writer to Medium, you wrote a masterpiece, and it could generate hundreds of dollars. While on Ghost, it might take you time to get traction.
  4. Writing and having a Ghost(Pro) Blog is like anything another blog. It takes time to build a following and getting ranked on Google. For making money on Medium, you can see cents or dollars the very next week on your Medium Partner Program dashboard.
  5. Your blog is your business which will always be there. If you choose to make a blog using Ghost, it will always be there. On Medium, my account has been suspended which later reinstated so there is always this little risk that they might suspend our account and all of our hard work will be gone.
  6. The SEO factor: Medium has great search engine optimization. You write an article and it will be ranked on top of Google in few days if you do the SEO the right way. Now, having a blog hosted on Ghost means they give you all the Search engine optimization features but it takes time for Google to trust your blog.
  7. Why not writing on both platforms? I hosted my blog on Ghost will also write and publish content on Medium.

Sign-up for Ghost(Pro) and experience the best blogging platform ever.

The good thing about having a blog hosted on Ghost(Pro) is that you can also publish those articles on Medium or doing the opposite, publishing your Medium articles on your blog by adding the Canonical link. A Canonical link helps you stop Google from getting confused about the real source where the article is published.

I hope this helps.
