Surviving Home Remodels - This Time, It's Personal!
I have upset my house painter. I have. I didn’t mean to, I just needed to have something done very fast, because I only have a 26-hour turn around. Did I insist that he did it? No. That’s not me. Even if I pay you, I often feel very bad asking you to do what I pay you to, because, polite. Yes, this makes no sense. Most of the time people want to do what they’re hired to do. I have been in a couple of careers where I’ve done a lot of things for free, because I was so desperate to do it one day for money. No, I was not a prostitute. Have I been treated like an unpaid prostitute at work? Sure. But that’s a very different story. I worked in my career choices for free sometimes, because I wanted to be in a friend’s project, I wanted them to be in mine, or it was just plain fun.

Is Medium Worth Using
Medium is a bunch of crap. You can’t get anyone who doesn’t already follow you to read your work. You can only get paid if the curators decide your stuff is worth selling. No one ever goes to Medium to find new articles or writers. I have never received a search engine result, which led me to an article from Medium.

How to Learn to Write by Reading
It is the ultimate goal of every author to engage with and captivate their audience, and spin out masterpieces, like those by William Shakespeare; George R.R. Martin; J.K. Rowling; Oscar Wilde; and other literary greats. Even though all these writers have completely different styles of writing, there is one thing they all have in common: They have figured out a way to evoke a strong emotional response from their readers, and that's one thing that keeps their readers hooked. Every single author mentioned has captivated their readers by causing them to fall in love with their writing, and adore their stories. There is a way we can model our stories after theirs without either compromising our own unique style, or committing the ultimate writer's sin of plagiarism.

Securing the Web
Cyber security is a field that deals with technology, the internet, and the security threats that can come from the Internet. The Chatham House stated that "cyber security also examines security strategies for combating cyber crime and other cyber threats to critical infrastructure, such as civil and military nuclear facilities." If a person understands cyber security they can use their skills to help protect computers and systems from hackers that are trying to disrupt the system or gaining unauthorized access to the system to gain benefits from the information contained inside the targeted system. Since cyber security is a very broad field, one can't know everything within the field. Cyber security involves fields like ethical hacking, security analyst, policies and cryptography, security researcher and many more.

Nightmares of Working in Retail Ch. 1
With my awkward social skills, it’s no surprise to most people that I work in retail. When you go shopping, you can almost always bet that you’ll run into an incompetent sales person when you need help. Or, frankly, you don’t want anyone to talk to you. This I can understand as a shopper, because I don’t need your help finding a piece of clothing that’s going to look good on my awkwardly-shaped body. That’s basically a fruitless effort. The answer is nothing, so don’t lead me to the trendy oversized tee shirts, or the ripped mom jeans that don’t hug in any of my good places. My sales persona is a completely different beast. I’m going to bug you about all of your deepest desires and passions, all while wearing a beautiful smile on my face that is only genuine about 50 percent of the time. Good days usually afford me a confrontation or two. I’m going to start telling you about them. While I do my best to not say no to my customers, there are sometimes where you’ll catch me doing the job I am more than happy to be doing.

My Very First Professional Byline
Once upon a time, in the eighties, my mother decided to go back to school. She had always wanted to study journalism, but, instead, she got married and had ten children. When my father died, my mom had to raise the six youngest children on her own. Not a small task for someone who never had the opportunity to go to college. When my father passed away in 1965, I was barely ten years old, the youngest of the ten kids. As I said, my mother raised up, mostly on her own, and was the best mother in the world —even the neighborhood kids believed it. As life went on and we all grew up, my mother decided to go back to school to get her journalism degree—she was 55 years old! Six months before she graduated, she was hired by the Cleveland Press to work as a staff reporter. After she graduated the Cleveland Press fell on hard times and was swallowed up by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Although she never did get to work as a reporter, I always have the memory of the poetry she was always writing when I was a child. She had a full album of poetry. And, at least by finishing college, she had the knowledge that she had accomplished what she had set out to do, all those years ago.
