The only hope the pair have to continue working together is if they're able to successfully track down a mysterious snake named Gary (Ke Huy Quan). However, the serpent proves to be much more slippery than they’d initially thought.

Along their journey, the trailer sees the pair visit new locations, like the marshlands, and reunite with some familiar faces, including the fearsome mobster Mr. Big (Maurice LaMarche) and his newly married daughter, Fru Fru (Leah Latham)

“Kiss the ring!” the mob heiress declares, waving a flashy ring pop encrusted hand toward Nick and Judy. “Kiss the ring!”

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new trailer for Zootopia 2, its sequel to the 2016 animated film Zootopia.

The preview, which dropped Wednesday, features the rabbit Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) and her police department partner, fox Nick (Jason Bateman), in group therapy.

"We are functioning fine, better than fine," Judy says, adding they don't need to be there.

Their boss, Chief Bogo (Idris Elba), thinks differently, however, and forces them to attend the therapy program.

What It Here

"It doesn't take long for their partnership to be put to the ultimate test when they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mystery tied to the arrival of a venomous snake in the animal metropolis," an official synopsis reads.

Disney announced that Zootopia 2 was on the way during an earnings call in 2023. The original film — which saw Nick and Judy join forces to find a group of missing predators — was a smash hit, raking in more than $1 billion at the global box office and spawning a Disney+ spinoff series, titled Zootopia+, that was released in 2022.

The sequel rounds out its cast with returning stars Idris Elba as Chief Bogo and Shakira as pop star Gazelle, as well as franchise newcomers Quan, Brunson, and Fortune Feimster as Nibbles the beaver.

The voice cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster and Quinta Brunson.

Joining the returning cast are Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby, a quirky quokka therapist, and Fortune Feimster as Nibbles Maplestick, a spirited beaver. Fan-favorite characters are also making a comeback: Shakira returns as Gazelle, Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Bonnie Hunt and Don Lake as Judy’s parents Bonnie and Stu Hopps, Nate Torrence as Clawhauser, Jenny Slate as Bellwether, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big, Leah Latham as Fru Fru, Josh Dallas as Frantic Pig, Tommy Chong as Yax, Mark Rhino Smith as Officer McHorn, and Raymond Persi as Flash.

The official synopsis teases a mystery that sends Judy and Nick undercover in parts of Zootopia they’ve never explored before, challenging their dynamic and pushing their teamwork to the limit. “They find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who turns the mammal metropolis upside down,” it reads.

Producer Yvett Merino joins directors Bush and Howard in bringing the sequel to life. In a statement, Bush said, “We’re beyond thrilled to return to Zootopia and take audiences on a hilarious, wild ride through uncharted territories of the city. It’s been an absolute joy reuniting with our original cast and expanding the world with some phenomenal new additions.”

He added, “Whether it’s marshlands filled with semi-aquatic mammals, vast desert dunes, or other mysteries, Judy and Nick will meet new allies and confront personal truths—while dealing with a very unwelcome snake in town.”

The original Zootopia, released in 2016, was a massive hit, earning over $1 billion globally and holding a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With Zootopia 2, Disney promises another heartwarming, action-packed, and hilarious ride through its vibrant animal world when it hits theaters this November.
