Instagram makes you anxious: how to solve it

If you feel like you can't control your activity on Instagram, you should know that you have to become aware of this problem

Instagram currently has 2 billion active users around the world, many of whom choose to share images of their daily lives. The reality is that users find this activity pleasurable. Some anonymous people go on to become influencers and earn money through Instagram. As is well known, the photos displayed there generate likes and comments. Precisely this aspect of the social network is generating anxiety in some users, turning their routine into a nightmare.

After an exhaustive research, the prestigious mental health institutions Young Health Movement and Royal Society for Public Health concluded that Instagram is the most harmful social network for mental health, surpassing all the social networks that currently exist.

If you are an enthusiastic user of Instagram, but at the same time this social network generates a lot of anxiety you should know that you can take control of this situation, if you follow some tips.

#1.Facing your anxiety

Anxiety is a mental state that, in certain cases, can become pathological, being an indication of an existing or developing disorder. People who experience anxiety may do so for various reasons, where genetic and environmental factors are intertwined. Although these situations can be overcome with the proper help of a professional, they are part of the experience of the patient, who cannot erase the traumatic event from his mind or completely disassociate himself from his family environment.

On the other hand, you have the ability to control your digital life and, if you so choose, you can delete your Instagram account permanently, without negatively affecting your life.

#2.Control your time

You're probably spending more hours than you should on Instagram. Although it may seem surprising, if you access the menu and check the “Your activity” section, you will be able to see the time you have spent each day in the last week, as well as an overall average. Instagram has implemented a feature that allows you to set a time limit, sending you a pop-up notification when you exceed the time you've decided to spend. It is important to mention that this option does not block the use of the application, but it does help you to be aware of when you are exceeding your time.

#3.Differentiating the virtual world from the real world

What appears on social networks is not reality. Reality is in the outside world, not in the live feeds, stories and photos with Instagram filters.

The perfect life that celebrities and anonymous people claim to have through the networks does not exist. You have to understand that it is all about an illusory projection of them, as they want to communicate a reality that only exists within their imagination. In many cases this behavior is lucrative for them, in other cases it is because they are desperate for attention from others and they don't know what else to do to get others to look at them.

#4.Identify the problem

Individuals utilize social media in various ways, and not everyone who experiences anxiety due to Instagram necessarily has a serious issue. However, it is advisable to take a break from the platform for a while.

If you find yourself compelled to check the app nearly every half hour while studying or working, it is likely disrupting your responsibilities.

Moreover, if the first thing you do upon waking is grab your phone to scroll through every single story instead of preparing for the day ahead, you are mirroring the behavior of smokers who become enslaved to their addiction.

The likes and views can be seen as indicators of popularity and happiness, but they are merely symptoms of a deeper issue, and seeking help may be necessary.

#Conclusion

Finally, if Instagram is finding you overwhelming in every way, you should delete the app permanently. You cannot allow a social network to control your individuality, avoid worse problems by controlling your reality.
