Maldives Minister Mocks PM Modi

Following a dispute sparked by three officials' disparaging remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, India called the Maldives High Commissioner.
The suspended deputy ministers referred to Mr Modi as a "terrorist," a "clown," and a "puppet of Israel."
According to a spokesman for the foreign ministry, the remarks were private and did not reflect the opinions of the administration.
Male's answer came after calls for a boycott erupted on Indian social media in response to the statements. An official for President Mohamed Muizzu's office told the BBC that "all government officials responsible for the comments have been suspended from their posts effective immediately". Tensions have already surfaced between India and the island nation since Mr. Muizzu assumed president last year and ordered a squad of about 75 Indian troops to leave the country.
• The Maldivian presidential election goes well for the candidate who supports China.
• The candidates are China and India.
The 3 suspending ministers are Mariyam Shiuna, Abdulla Mahzoom Majid, and Malsha Shareef.
Maldivian media reports that despite numerous calls for the three officials' firing, they have only been suspended. The three made the contentious comments in response to a post made by Mr. Modi on the former Twitter platform, X, which featured pictures supporting visits to the Indian Lakshadweep Island chain. Additionally, Ms. Shiuna compared India to cow waste. This provoked criticism on Indian social media, as hashtags like #BoycottMaldives and #ExploreIndianIslands became trending. Even though Indians made up one of the major tourist groups in the Maldives last year, some have announced that they will delay their travel plans. The CEO of the Indian travel website EaseMyTrip announced the cancellation of all Maldives airline tickets. The coral islands, resorts, and beaches with silver sand are well-known features of the archipelago.
Notable Indians were incensed by the statements, including Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and a few cricket players. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the former president of the Maldives, harshly denounced the three officials' "hateful language against India." "India has always been a good friend to Maldives, and we must not allow such callous remarks to negatively impact the age-old friendship between our two countries" , he said in a conversation with X. Mohamed Nasheed, the former president, called the social media postings' use of profanity "appalling." The divisive posts were taken down after the uproar. The high commissioner of the Maldives to India, Ibrahim Shaheeb, was seen on Monday departing the Indian Foreign Ministry's Delhi offices.
The Maldives' foreign ministry received a visit from India's envoy on Monday, although the country's High Commission reported that the visit was for a "pre-arranged meeting" to discuss bilateral issues. The controversy precedes Mr. Muizzu's official five-day visit to China, an adversary of India, which begins on Monday. A number of former Maldivian leaders visited India for the first time after winning office, Mr. Muizzu's trip to Beijing is perceived as a high-profile jab at India. Upon assuming charge in the month of November, he chose Turkey as his first foreign destination. For Delhi, which is seeking to counter China's growing influence in the Indian Ocean region, this would be seen as a diplomatic setback.

Fishing and agriculture
Lakshadweep's major agricultural product is coconut palms. Produced and shipped to the mainland is copra. Some areas have had the underlying coral removed and the tracts fertilised with organic materials; this has made it possible to grow millet, vegetables, edible root crops, bananas, and vegetables.
A significant portion of the territory's economy is derived from fishing, with tuna being the main catch. A long-standing custom of adept navigating is carried out by many fishermen. Some continue to navigate in unique vessels known as odams between the islands and the Indian mainland.
