Incredibooks: The Provider
A review and analysis of the book “The Provider” by Joanna Margot

So thanks to my best friend Ashley “Bookashy” I was persuaded into reading a stalker/hostage story titled “The Provider” from author Joanna Margot and let me tell you something, this story was a complete thrill ride that was definitely worth the read.
The story opens up from the first person perspective of the character named Evie. This Evie girl is a young woman who has been taken captive and is being held against her will in a creepy basement. When she wakes up she finds herself chained to a bed and confronted by a creeper in his mid-20’s named Oscar. Now off the gate Oscar doesn’t look like the typical psychopath on the surface, but when he opens up his mouth and starts speaking words you can see that this dude is definitely a few tacos short of a combination plate.
When the young girl named Evie starts to inquire about why she’s being held against her will the answer she gets is the epitome of a stalker’s obsession with delusion. So this guy Oscar has been studying Evie’s life from afar, watching her every move on social media and learning about her daily living habits.
Our young protagonist Evie is an extremely introverted individual. She doesn’t go out much or interact with a lot of people. She prefers to keep to herself staying inside and reading stories all day, especially dark romances that deal with obsession and a warped sense of devout love, much like the current situation she’s trapped in. While reading her stories these scenarios seemed entertaining and even somewhat enticing, but right now it’s just horrific.
As for her captor, which is our antagonist Oscar, this guy is really under the impression that he’s doing our girl Evie a service by basically keeping her as his love slave. He also believes the two of them are meant to be considering her taste in stories and the impression that if he could just provide her with the life she reads about, so all she would have to do is just “exist” then all would be well. Our man Oscar clearly can’t distinguish the line between fantasy and reality because he just doesn’t have it all upstairs.
The second main perspective of the story is told through the eyes of another young girl named Sydney. Though this young lady is more active than our friend Evie, Sydney herself becomes suggestively introverted after a bad break up involving infidelity between her fiancé and her best friend. Eventually young Sydney becomes attached to the missing persons case that is a young Evie and soon becomes entangled in this diabolical world of captivity.
This entire story was one of the most mind blowing tales I have ever read. First off, if you’re a person who likes to read stories that are told from multiple perspectives then this story is definitely for you. Being told from different viewpoints really adds a deeper sense of insight into what exactly is taking place.
In addition to its different perspectives I also found this story so likeable because the two main female protagonist in the story remind me of me and my friend Ashley. I consider myself to be a lot like the character Sydney because of her background as a ghostwriter, which is what I seek to do in the near future, as well as the fact that she’s a mix between being introverted and extroverted. My friend Ashley who recommended this story to me is exactly like Evie because she is extremely introverted and has even joked that she would’ve love to be kept in captivity away from the world where she could be all by herself.
This story is definitely a ten out of ten for me. I was kept on the edge of every page in utter suspense for what was gonna happen next. Further more, this story is deliciously deceptive. You won’t truly know every character you’re introduced to as well as you think and the story takes a lot of twist and turns that will blow your mind. After reading this I’m definitely interesting in reading more stories from Joanna Margot. I’m still holding out for hope for a spin-off or sequel to this one. Do yourself a favor and go read “The Provider” by Joanna Margot.
